Upgrade from UE2.2 to UE2.3

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.3

Upgrade from UE2.2 to UE2.3

Postby buschbarber » Fri Jul 24, 2009 3:44 pm

I have been downloading the LiveCD for Ubuntu and Ultimate Edition for some time, but I have always installed Fresh. I have my UE2.2 tweaked the way I want it.

Can I upgrade to UE2.3 without any ill effects?
If so, can I Right click on the downloaded ISO file, Open With Archive Mounter, and run the upgrade from there? How do I initiate the Upgrade? Why does the Readme file in the Archive say AMD64? Is that still compatible with Intel64?

The reason I ask is I have downloaded the ISO file twice from Main and once from U of M. When I Right Click on the ISO file and choose Write to Disk, I always get an error message that some files may be corrupt. I am burning at the slowest speed.

Thanks!!

Is there a reliable app in UE2.2 that I could have used to burn the ISO to DVD>

OK!! I rebooted in Windows 7 and burned the UE2.3 ISO file to a DVD. I booted my system from the LiveDVD and everything looks OK.

Do I have to do a Complete Install of UE2.3 or can I Upgrade from UE2.2 to UE2.3? If so, can I Upgrade while booted from the LiveDVD?

What is the best approach to this?

Sorry to say that the best approach from my perspective is to do a clean installation. Only if you really want to use Ultimate Edition 2.3. If not, just keep 2.2 if its doing/giving you all that you need/expect!!

If its anything in particular that you need that is included in Ultimate Edition 2.3. I am pretty sure you can get it through Ultamatix. Tools like "KDE, XFCE, E17/Enlightenment or XBMC" is all in the new & improved Ultamatix!!

I don't mind doing a Clean Install if there are features that I might find attractive. What's new and exciting with this version?

Ultimate Edition 2.3 Comes with a newer kernel, GNOME, KDE, "XFCE only in x64", XBMC, a brand new theme ect. If you don't mind, the x64 is highly recommended.

Thanks!! I was reading all the info on UE2.3 web page and I have a better idea of what the new improvements are.

I think I will install 2.3 after I back up some stuff.

I generally install the 32bit version because of how much easier packages are to install, but I have a 64 bit processor. I have 2.3 x86 installed is there a significant enough difference to make the change to the 64 bit version worth it. I'm fine with a learning curve.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
