Theres no propitiatory driver for his card.So if that was done it would look like this....blank.Just like on my system, and Im using an three year old ati card....But his card has been on the legacy list for a long time, and never had a propitiatory drive for it in Linux.I know this because I have the same vid card sitting on the shelf next to me ;)

Hello everyone and thank you for your contribution. I will try to use the instructions given to me by "Cell" first and let you know how it works out. I believe the card is capable of running everything smoothly. As it scored a 4.5 in Vista for gaming graphics and Windows Aero. Also, I enabled the Compiz window and cube animations and they both run very smooth with only a couple hitches if you try to do alot at once as it strains the now 9 year old system. But I will test it and let everyone know what happens.

Thanks Again!

It is "capable",but might not be in Linux....But one can't compare Linux to an Microsoft system.I hope that app works for ya,I never tried it with my 9000 series cards. Let us know.

Don't know if your a new Linux user or not.But its good info even for an long time user.

Re: Monitor Resolution Not Supported on LCD TV, Help.. Please!

Hello again, Yea, it diddn't work for me. It was basiaclly just another display resolution program that isn't invoked on startup nor did it have the options I require. Is there another way? Is there a file I can edit so I can change the default screen resolution so it won't switch back to a resolution that isn't supported? Is there a file I can edit that will add the resolution I require so I can force it to work? Any help will be appreacaited!!

Unfourtunately, If I cannot find a solution, its back to Vista... UGH.. which would be a real shame as I really enjoy this distrubution.. When it is working! (ie. When I switch the resolution down from my CRT monitor and re-connect it to my TV Monitor)

Any Help would bw awesome as I would love to learn linux inside and out!

Thanks!!

Sounds like you just want an excuse to use vista....which is cool. You can do what you want. But I bet everything will be peachy if you use Ultimate Edition 2.1 instead of 2.2.That way you can use the ati driver. ;) ,and probably get proper support for your card.

Then again theres another way....search for xander. ;) Might be what you need, but its a cl app.No gui.

You need a custom edid.

When you unplug a cable from a working monitor and plug it in to a LCD TV and it looks good but when you reboot it don't work this is a dead giveaway the EDID needs to be changed.

Try this..

http://john.fremlin.de/programs/linux/read-edid/

and it can be found in synaptics.

edit:Just realized this is for 32 bit...might... might not work.
edit #2:heres a 64 bit.

Hey guys, yea, that sounds like that could be the culprit, the EDID that is. I don't know linux well enough to know what to search for when something isn't working correctly, which is where you guys come in, I REALLY appreacaite it! I will try your instructions tommorow and let you know how it works out!

And Cell, no, I'm not looking for an excuse to go back to Vista, I'm just running out of available options! Its a HUGE inconvence having that old bulky monitor next to my desk and on top of that having to swap the cables twice every time I turn on the computer. Its a real pain and If I couldn't find a solution, then I needed to go back to what works, you know? Truth be told, I *Hate* Microsofts products and I'd rather be without any of it, but when its the only thing out there that I can set up understand properly, I get stuck between a rock and a hard place. I plan on picking up a Macbook Pro at some point to break up the monotony of dealing with the same thing, day in and day out.
oh, yes, and I used xander and I couldn't get anywhere with it ethier. I won't be able to do anything until I can get the TV working properly as a monitor and then fixing it to the proper resolution.

Then I will figure out how to run iTunes so I can sync my iPhone, but that is for another day once I can actually *see* what is on the screen first! lol

Thanks again everyone!

Lol I didn't mean to sound like an a$$.I been playing with the edid app,and it does as it says.Theres no gui,so type read-edid in a terminal.

It recognizes my projector...but I never had a problem,so I won't be able to trouble shoot.

I'm actually running Ultimate Edition 2.2 on a 32" polaroid lcd hdtv I had to install using the fail safe graphics mode and then I had to log in as "root" to save the changes on my display because as normal user they kept reverting back it works fine it's just that I've never used linux and I can't get the cube efect to work don't know how but I guess I'll open another thread
