Update Package List in Wine Doors

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.2

Update Package List in Wine Doors

Postby tork » Sun Jul 12, 2009 12:34 pm

Been using Ubuntu for about 4 months now. Still learning!! I cannot update my package list in Wine Doors. All taps are completely empty and when I click on the File/update Package list it fails to do anything. Any ideas of how to get this information back into this file? Any idea of what caused it to drop out? I believe this is stored in a \tmp\ file somewhere. Any help would be much appreciated as I've now loaded Ultimate Edition 2.2 on about 5 of my computers and would like to experiment with a few windows programs.

Thank you!

When you update with wine doors your downloading from their repository.Same thing when you update your system...your pulling in apps from Ubuntu's,or other repos.

FYI: I own a business right across the street from www.santaclaushouse.com. I've even done business with Mr. And Mrs. Claus. Nice people!

I read your suggestion above and it was relevant to my situation. I've tried to find an address or way of updating the repo site for 2.2, (if there even is one) but haven't found it yet. Learning curve is in it's steepest point right now and I don't want to press my luck with FREE help. So I've been trying to read as much as possible before asking but I made the leap from Windows yet I still have one program I want to see if I can get running on Wine. It's a Flight Sim for radio controlled planes, (Realflight G3.5) If you could point me in the direction of these repositories and hopefully how to load them, I will be one step closer.

My Ultimate goal is to get rid of Windows on all my business computers and use a terminal server to run my POS software. I'm not ready for that jump just yet but with all the help and support I see going on here, I will get there soon. Thanks.

When having an problem with repos its best to go directly to the source.

http://wddb.wine-doors.org/node/53#comments

There should be no reason to update any repos at all....unless your looking for some particular software. For software that is already installed with Ultimate Edition you can use Ubuntu Tweak to pull in new versions, but in doing this theres no guaranty of the new software being stable.Ultimate Edition 2.2 uses the Ubuntu Jaunty repos. When Ultimatix(search here in the forums for ultimatix) is done being tested it will pull apps in from Threemahn's personal repo. From time to time individual repos will go down for maintenance, and other reasons, but are put back up fairly quick.

It's a Flight Sim for radio controlled planes, (Realflight G3.5) If you could point me in the direction of these repositories and hopefully how to load them, I will be one step closer.

Wine is already installed out of the box.I'm not sure of which version, but you can get the newest from using Ubuntu Tweak...also installed on your system.Normally with wine you install the app's .exe file,or set up file.If all goes well with the install then you will be able to launch it from the applications menu...under wine>programs.Keep in mind not all Microsoft software will run in wine.I suggest having a look at wine's site to get a feel of what it is,and how it works.

Here is where you would configure Ubuntu Tweak to pull in newer versions of software.

Oh ya...Can ya tell Mr.Claus sorry bout the burnt cookies last year.....
