Hello witblits1970.

http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg935430.html

The above link suggested using the alternate install CD, as a suggestive fix!!

It would be nice if you reported that bug to Canonical, so that future release of ubuntu maybe patched in that department.

The bug mailing address can be found on the very same page at the bottom.

Best regards

thanks to all so far, thing is i have not received a error message! it goes to 50% when the partitioner step is in progress and stops there. i spoke to a friend who thinks the MB is not yet supported in linux generally speaking as he uses Suse11. he had had no joy installing any OS on this MB other than MS. :(

Unfortunately it seems this bug is still an issue. Can you confirm this issue exists with the most recent Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 release - http://www.ubuntu.com/news/ubuntu-9.04-desktop . Please let us know your results. Thanks.

I have this motherboard with an internal SATA cdrom and SATA drives. I've successfully installed both Intrepid as well as Jaunty on it without issue.

I seems that you need to use SATA to make it work

witblits1970,
You may have already tried this. I had a problem with the SATA Plextor SATA DVD/CD drive on my home system that was the same as what you are experiencing. My only "workable" solution was to use an IDE DVD ROM for the installation of Jaunty 9.04 X64. After that was successful, I discovered my MB had two different "types" of SATA ports, and the one I had selected to use with the DVD/ CD drive was one of the "different" types - I believe these were for "On-board RAID" devices. Once I moved the Plextor SATA DVD/CD drive to a "standard" SATA port, all worked correctly.
I looked at the ASUS site pages, and found there are several versions of this MB. Could you supply the exact and complete Model and version for clarification...??
Just a thought...
