3.5 Floppy

I have been having an awful lot of trouble getting my floppy drive to work. Nick gave me the bare bones of getting it working, so I went surfing and found a really good instruction piece on HOW-TO that really simplified the installation. I just want to share it with anyone who. like me, is relatively techno-handicapped. I just wish I had found this piece sooner, it would have saved me a lot of grief.

I gave you the instructions already but here they are again:
In a terminal type sudo modprobe floppy
Then sudo gedit /etc/modules and add floppy to the end and save.
I like the easiest ways to do things.................

That's good to know, Stanca, but Jaunty does not like my on board Intel GMA 950 graphics driver(and numerous other things as well) so his graphics may not work until he installs a different kernel so it won't be an issue, will it?

So I guess you'll have problems in UE2.2 too?

I won't be the only one. Many motherboards(the cheaper Asus for one and many laptop mobos) have an Intel chip set with that graphics and they will have the same problem if they use the Jaunty kernel so be prepared for a lot of questions. You can just use an older kernel to resolve the problem. No big deal for me, but for newbies it will be a big hurdle to overcome. I will probably stick with 2.1 or maybe even go back to 2.0(my favorite) until the bugs get worked out. VMware Player will also not install with Jaunty. There are many other issues as well too numerous to mention(like sound). Maybe Ubuntu will get things sorted out before long, or not. Who cares.......... Maybe it's time to switch back to Debian, anyway!!!
