Here's an alternate version of how to set up 5.1 sound under Pulseaudio.... Nick's methods wouldn't work for me (I show NO channel mode) but this works perfectly well even though it says it is for Hardy rather than Intrepid or Jaunty...

http://www.automaticable.com/2008-05-28 ... ntu-hardy/

Essentially you just edit a daemon.conf file and reboot.

Thanks deate, just figured I'd put it in there also to help "remind" those that could have found the answer that way...

As the name says, it's 2.1 version, so you'll only have 2.1 sound to work! You want 5.1 sound? wait till Ultimate Edition 5.1 version in 3 years from now!
