I've had that fault with Firefox. The cure is: press F11 to maximize and then again to minimize. The buttons will appear - thats a temporary cure.

The real reason is that a config file in Firefox is ruined. (The minimized window is too big for the screen)

The solution is: Close Firefox.

Go to folder /home/username/.mozilla/firefox/xxxxxxx.default. (xxxxxxx is on some computers "issbt2gp", but that differs.

Find the file "localstore.rdf" and delete it.

Reopen Firefox and it should work.

If that's what you tried and didn't fixt it, you have to hope for someone else to help you :?

I got the error again - on my second PC, the one to play with - we was trying to provoke the system by surfing around the most nasty 6-sites we could find. If we had used windows the box would have been dead :lol: :lol: but - Ok, as far as we know 8-) - the only thing happened was that with the window size, and were easily fixed as described.

Judging from your picture, you want your top panel (from the desktop) to not be visible when you open Firefox. If that is the case, then you can simply right-click on the panel and put a check-mark next to "autohide."

Uffe's fix is for the Firefox top panel, like so:
top-panel.jpg

That's quite a different thing than what you show in your picture, so there seems to be some confusion (at least to me) on what the actual problem is.

@witblits

Are you using Compiz, and when it starts in the fullscreen mode and you press F11 to get it back to normal what "mode" is the maximize/unmaximize button in? (ie the window set to maximized or unmaximized) knowing these things will help me better answer and hopefully solve your dilemma

The problem I had - and as for what I can see, exactly the same that happened for witblits1970 - is that the minimized window in Firefox gets too big for the screen. The result is that the bar you, bpollen posted a pic. of disappears out of the top of the screen and the firefox window covering the toppanel ( witch witblits1970 posted a pic. of in his seccond post and said he was missing). For that the fix works. :)
