System keeps crashing

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.1

System keeps crashing

Postby Nirrad1st » Wed Apr 08, 2009 5:59 am

hello
I have just installed Ultimate Edition 2.1 64. I must say everything works out of the box. Wow way to go.

But I have a serious or maybe not so serious problem. The computer keeps intermittently turning off. No splash screens, nothing . Just completely off, instantly. Now I don't believe it is a heat issue, as I have rebooted into Windblows Vista, and there have not been any shutdowns after a prolonged period of time.

Thanks very much in advance for any help.

358MB Mobile Intel Graphic Accelerator X3100

P.S. Can anyone also please tell me how to add this computer information automatically, like I see in other peoples posts?
Thanks again

Hi Nick, and TexasMike

Thank you both for the friendly greetings and help. I have updated my signature. Thanks.

Ok Nick here is the readout

laurette@laurette-UE:~$ sudo lspci | grep -i vga
[sudo] password for laurette:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
laurette@laurette-UE:~$ grep -i driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf
laurette@laurette-UE:~$ grep -i driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf
laurette@laurette-UE:~$

I entered the second command twice, because it didn't do anything ...lol sorry.

Hope this help. Thanks again Nick.

I don't believe that your system is crashing per se, It is probably due to your laptop's power save feature. try looking into any conflicts between the hardware bios feature and the power save setting in the admin or settings tab.
Laptop. Macbook pro dual boot U.E 2.6 64 2.8 Ghz core2duo
Desktop:
Core I7 820, ATI 5870 radeon HD graphics Ultimate Edition 2.7
maxtor 320 gig external usb

Hp c5100 photosmart printer (networked and wireless)

Hello ixnod
Not sure if I spelled your name correctly. i agree. i believe it has something to with a power shut-off feature.
But I looked in the bios and there are no settings that I can see. But i also am not sure by what you mean by conflicts? or how to check against them?

Is that the "acpi" I don't have a laptop, so I haven't paid much attention??? Does the phrase "noacpi" sound familiar??? Might do an advanced search here to see what it turns up???

Hello again

OK I have noticed it was running very warm. Could it be the CPU fan is not coming on?

Under another operating system, it is running very cool. No heat.

If you do an advanced search, as I suggested earlier, for "noacpi" you'll find many things relating to problems with laptops...one post by Leadfingers (and several others) suggest that there is a STRUGGLE between your bios and acpi, as I said before I don't have a laptop, so I haven't read many of these posts, but suggest that since you have one and have problems, you might try
