USB OR Internal adapter, doesn't make a difference, if for e.g you have the same brand/model capture card internally it won't make a difference if you have the same card USB. Its just a matter of compatibility with Linux and support that the kernel have for the hardware!!

Usb tv tuners were made for laptops mostly.
