How do I properly uninstall Ultimate 2.1?

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.1

How do I properly uninstall Ultimate 2.1?

Postby Banyon » Sat Apr 04, 2009 10:02 am

After installing Ultimate 2.1 (which I love) I realized--being the Linux noob that I am--that it altered my boot partition in such a way that upon booting (I dual boot XP/Linux) I no longer see System Commander boot options. Instead I now see the options Ultimate provides.

How do I properly uninstall Ultimate so that my boot partition is restored to it's pre-Ultimate condition?

If I can do this, I would like to re-install Ultimate without fudging the boot partition--if that's possible.

Thanks!

I don't know "System Commander ", but: Is Ultimate Edition and WinXP not both in your Grub boot-menu ?
If they both there, you have no need for "System Commander " and indeed no reason for uninstall :)

Edit: some facts on SC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Commander
but I would prefer Super Grub, if I had problems http://www.supergrubdisk.org/wiki/Main_Page

Thats like asking, how do I uninstall windows....

You dont, you reparation and reinstall. In your case its not the OS's that are the problem but the boot loader. Like the other guy said, I'm not familiar with System commander. I'm not even effluent in GRUB, but I know from experience that if you want to reinstall Ultimate Edition to get back the dual boot option, all you have to do is delete the current Ultimate Edition partition during a new installation, recreate the partition(ext3 and /) and GRUB will be set up automatically with your windows OS and Ultimate Edition. As for system commander if thats your choice to use, you should know how to set it up yourself(or learn too) and if you cant then I would stick with the GRUB that gets automatically installed.

Uffe, yes, both XP and Ultimate are there, but I use Sys Commander to run much more than operating systems. I also use it to boot diagnostic tools from DOS. I cannot do this with Grub...that I know of.

Thanks, Fader. I will remove the partition and go from there.

Ultimately, I would like to use Sys Commander to handle the booting that Grub does. I'm very new to Linux, so the learning curve is tremendous at the moment. Thank you guys for taking the time to respond! :)

Now that you're taking about reinstalling, why not try to reinstall "System Commander" in Windows first, just to see if that will fix it ?

Should be located in /boot/grub

But I would first try, uninstalling and reinstalling star commader to see if that overides grub.

Effluent: the outflow of a sewer, septic tank, etc.

I don't think you would WANT to be effluent......
