Hi all,
I feel that my software isn't getting updated from the repositories. Namely, Azureus/Vuze is stuck at version 3.* whereas it should update to version 4.*.
And heres where it gets worse, Vuze has this built in update engine, and it downloads the update and tries to apply it (after requesting a restart of the software), but after restarting vuze it says that the update file is missing!! I do have "move upon completion" enabled, so it moves the downloaded data to a new folder after the download completes... maybe thats interfering.

anyways, back to issue #1, a couple other softwares dont seem to be updating either, like Open Office...
Now, i suppose I could find the repositories of every single software i use and add it to /etc/apt/sources.list but i thought the whole point of "Ultimate Edition" was it was fully loaded, so I wouldn't have to worry much about getting a diverse range of new software from scratch, or about updating the existing softare packages...

anyone think that just adding links to the sources.list should work? or does it look a little more serious?

does this help?this is my first time using ubuntu.really simple because i took time to explore all the options,and software bundles with Ultimate.(not trying to sound like im raggin on ya <BREW>

Ubuntu Tweak and Ultimatix are great. and they work!
but right now it seems like my built in apt is kinda broke!!

Booted my pc today (its a fresh install, just a day old!!! so this kinda pisses me off) and got this error:

Code: Select all: Apt Authentication issue Problem during package list update. The package list update failed with a authentication failure. This usually happens behind a network proxy server. Please try to click on the "Run this action now" button to correct the problem or update the list manually by running Update Manager and clicking on "Check".

so I clicked the "Run this action now" button because it was a more interesting option than "Cancel" and i got this message:

Its not the "built in" apt that's broken.This problem is caused by change of gpg key used by ftpmaster on repository servers.
Try this.Open a terminal and copy and past one line,delete xxxx's,type in the key that is missing(from your upgrade),let it do it's thing.Then proceed to the next line.
gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv xxxxxxxxxxx
gpg --export --armor xxxxxxxxxxxxx | sudo apt-key add -
sudo apt-get update

do it for each key.

where xxxxxxx is the key that is missing.This worked for me <BREW>

I thought that usually when you get those messages the repo's are down for one reason or another. I just wait a few days or so,and try to update again.Remember those "error's" don't imply that there is something wrong with your system!

Also make sure you have those checked in ubuntu tweak.Remember if you do all this your getting some software that might not be as stable as the previous installation(depends on what repo's are being used and for what).The Ultimate dvd was tested as is!For the most part I ignore that little update icon,and only upgrade or install when i need too.(fresh install I will download the media codecs and such).

wow, thats a pretty short list!! keeping it simple is a good idea... although i really want to be on the cutting edge.

also.. it turns out that for some reason regular ubuntu 8.10 isnt updating vuze 3.* to 4.* automatically, so I was freaking out for no reason (had to install it in virtualbox just to test this out). open office didnt update manually either, so i have to manually update both of those for ultimate edition :s

Im still not sure why theyre not updating automatically, maybe because "Pre-released updates" is not ticked in software sources? but i am fairly certain both Open Office 3.0 and vuze 4.0 are stable :s
