[solved]CrossFire game

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.1

Re: CrossFire game

Postby Cell » Thu Mar 19, 2009 1:11 pm

Nick,
I believe the game your refering to is not the same as the poster.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/crossfire#item3rd-2

He is trying to install a subagame called crossfire that is a first person shooter, only supported by windows.
that said,I tried every trick I know, and could not play the game.I could not get past the hacker shield that the game runs automatically. On a windows system it scans your drive for "hack"files(probably more too)to make sure you cant cheat.I did find that someone used it in ubuntu with a wubi install...........but if your going to do that you might as well run it in windows

not saying its impossible........I just cant find a way...........yet.Im still playing with it. ;)

'how is that vbox 3d?last time i tried a game that way was last year, and it was a no go.'
You are maxed out at 128 megs video ram. Virtual Box cannot access the pci bus directly, so you have to use the virtual video driver. Also, disc ripping software like cd rippers do not work. It can however access usb directly so usb devices will work provided you install the correct drivers on the guest operating system(like printers).

while i hate suggesting software that isnt gpl. another option is to use the new vesrion of vmware workstation. it fully supports 3d now. i was over at a friends house yesterday any he was using it to play "assassins creed". had zero lag at all. i about sh*t my pants when i saw that. while vmware does cost money they have a trial (30 days i think). this way you can see if the performance is up to your liking or not.

I have tried to get XP to install with vmx builder(free but Windows only) without success. It keeps crashing about two thirds of the way through. VMware Player is free and I know you can edit the vmx file to tweak it to support 3D but you are still maxed out at 128 megs of ram regardless. I'm not paying for something that really isn't worth it. If I want to run Windows games I'll use my Windows box and get full value of my sli setup.
I bet you could get Windows 2000 to work with vmx builder but I'm not going to bother, myself.
