Nice, what about games? Any faster in games then the C2D?

my new one was going to be a Phenom 810 2.8Ghz, MSI 790FX-GD70, 4 gigs of the tracer ram everyone likes :D, HD4850(have it), 1TB hardrive(Cuz I fill up a 500 in DVD's :D), Xclio Windtunnel case or an Antech 1200, all watercooled :D.

Also this post is on the Ultimate Edition machine, but I installed gamers this morning for lil bro to play on.

It depends on the games. Most games are more responsive to core speeds and gpus than the number of cores. Like an Intel E8600 http://processorfinder.intel.com/detail ... Spec=SLB9L and a fast gpu. That would play your games at high fps. I only play card games and Frozen Bubble but that is because I'm old and miserable.

I built a gaming machine few years ago(bottom specs).i went with a fast single core just for that fact.but now i wished i would have bought a dual core.Over time you find your self using other things that will make use of of more than one core.I don't think you need that water cooling system Sleepy. With that set up and a good hsu,and a dab of artic silver you should be fine.(unless your going for the wow factor)I have over clocked my system passed 3 ghz with no heat issues, and my cpu uses more watts.

I think it would be cheaper to get water cooling now and when I upgrade again all I have to do is get new tubing and maybe a pump. Plus over time newer CPU's will run faster and in turn get hotter(original pentiums didnt have heatsinks now did they? :D). Also overclocking, I hear the new phenoms clock well with water, but I wont do it until it gets older. Hmmmmmm phasechange............ :D

LOL, nexuiz @ max settings = 4-5FPS :D, GF6200 = 0, games = I lost count...

Also anyone know how to get wine to setup the fake C drive? I cant get steam to install because it cant find the .wine folder.

check out "playonlinux"i used it before and the gui seems easer to install stuff.I think they have an installer for steam also..........just point and click.I think wine doors comes with ultimate,i never had luck for what I wanted to do with that one.
http://www.playonlinux.com/en/

For wine you have to do the wine config first, then it sets up the c drive.I just use the auto detect tab,and it seems to work well. Then you can try to install the exe. files with wine<right click, open with wine>.Remember not every window game will run with good results in linux, but i think the one's you mentioned run good(if i remember right)Are you duel booting or did you let ultimate take over your drive?

Don't forget to check out the "native" games in ultamatix.some are multiplayer also.

'Plus over time newer CPU's will run faster and in turn get hotter'
That's actually not true. The netburst cpus(Pentium D) would fry an egg on them and they were crap.
The core speed isn't the only thing going on. The core 2 series are better designed and therefore more efficient and run much cooler.
'Also anyone know how to get wine to setup the fake C drive?'
The fake c drive is in your home folder. You have to check show hidden folders(view).
'.i went with a fast single core just for that fact'
The e8600 is duo core.

Hmm my dads q6600 wont stay under 70C with stock cooler, so we went and got a zalman for it and it much better. Yeah im doing it now Cell, I forgot the config and stuff :D.

Also, after I ran updates (233 of them actually), it wont boot in quiet mode, but the quiet command and the boot in text mode is unchecked in the startup manager. Any ideas?

Your dad needs a better case or more fans. It shouldn't be over 40 Celsius with the stock cooler. That processor does not run that fast.

Hes got a my old case which is pretty big now, left 2 80MM fans it it and a 120 in the PSU. Im shure it the die temp which is normal. My sempron 3000+ runs that same temp but it tells me the die temp, outer temp is about 32C
