Hi guys, I am loving the 2.1 ed, but how do I get rid of the penguin hanging from the cursor? It is driving me crazy. Thanks

Changing Mouse Cursor Themes

* Download the theme to an easily accessible location; ~/Desktop is good.
*

Install the gcursor package via Synaptic Package Manager or apt-get.
*

Start gcursor with System → Preferences → Cursor Selection.
* Select a theme, or click 'Install theme' and select the compressed file to add it.
* Once you're finished, select the theme you want to use and click "Close"

There is an easier way to change it. Just go to the "apearence" section and customize then choose pointer. No adding program needed.

I doubt if you can unless you are a programmer. I don't know why it bothers people so much. I only get him at the log in screen and he's kinda cool. Reminds me I'm using Linux. You can start digging through all the .so files on your computer if it bothers you that much and then figure out how to edit one.

There seems to be four cursers active in 2.1 and they change with the purpose. In a writing field it's a spinning "bone", if you click on a link or a button it's a hand etc.
If you - when the penguin is active - minimize your window > right-click on your desktop > choose "change background" > choose "theme" > customize > cursor - and then select the one you want, then Tux only appears at log-in.

It has worked that way on the three PC I've installed on :D

Tux shows up depending on what I do, like if I go to click the minimize/maximize/close buttons on a window or go to adjust the dimensions of a window (ie: width, height, or combination) and also at login, but other than that the cursor(s) are what the default was in 2.0. I mean the Tux cursors don't bother me all that much, as long as it does what I need it to, but it would be nice to know how to turn him off if I ever felt the need to do so

Even if I knew how to I wouldn't tell you guys. I'm sure you could find the little fella in your /usr/share directory but I've got more interesting things to do like go outside and get some fresh air.
p.s. Maybe one of you fine gentlemen can search your entire /usr/share directory(learn C+ while your at it --you may have to use that to fix it) and post back with your detailed results.
