How to get my digital optical port working(SOLVED)

Postby rjb3353 » Thu Mar 05, 2009 2:24 am

Hello all,
Does anyone know how to get my optical SPDIF port working on my sound card? I have an HT Omega Clario sound card with a C-Media CMI8788 chip set. I know it works with the newer kernels because I had sound on other distros. Will I need to do a custom kernel compile or build a new asla module? All I see in the selection of sound servers are analog ones.
Thanks for any insight you can give.
Robert

Oh I forgot to mention that I am using the Ultimate Edition 2.1 64 bit

The only options that I see all have to do with monitoring digital input not using the spdif out port so I have digital sound going out to my Logitech z5500 5.1 speakers it does not seem that digital out has been implemented.

Thanks,
Yes I had found it yesterday. Trying to set it up with the drop down menu items when right clicking on the speaker on the task bar would not do anything. I later found the Sound item I believe on the Preferences Menu down towards the bottom. When I set it up in there it began to work correctly. However later I ran into some issues with Pulse audio. I could not control any of the sound volumes for my speakers when using that sound server. I found a tutorial from the Ubuntu forum on how to get rid of Pulse audio, to me it is in the same category as KDE 4, not ready for the light of day, so I decided to give it a try before I have a lot of time invested in getting my new install of 2.1 set up just in case doing it hosed my system. Well I successfully got rid of Pulse audio and so far all is well.
Thanks for your input,
Robert B
