Window manager

Once again a beautiful job to Thee and Crew. I have one small problem. Every now and then compiz stops working and reverts back to some other window manager (I assume Metacity). As I am still confined to the GUIs I can't find anywhere in the menus how to reload compiz or select widow mnager. All I can find is the compiz settings mgr. I have to log out/log back in to get compiz back.

I have 2.1 x64 and a nvidia geforce 9800gt 1g ddr3 graphics card with the 1.77 driver.

Thanks in advance.

One of these days I'll learn bash.

I'm not really understanding what you're saying...what are you doing when compiz stops working, or what happens when you think it stops working...give us few more details, so we can understand the problem better

The screen will just flicker and then I have no compiz eye candy. No cube, animations, multiple desktops, etc. They are all still checked off in the settings mgr though. I don't know what causes it. It seems to be different circumstances when it happens.

\ Also, I'm not quite sure if it's related, but every time I've tried to change my theme with emerald, the emerald window stalls and turns gray then comes back with no change.

What I'm looking for is the menu I had when I right clicked on the compiz icon in 2.0 or even the x86 2.1. it allows you to pick your window mgr, theme mgr, etc. Thanks for the quick reply.

Hir Ctrl Alt F1 which will take you to a terminal(Ctrl Alt F7 brings you back to your desktop).
Type sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf and go to the part where your nvidia driver is listed and write down what it says and post back with the info. It will be past your keyboard, mouse etc. settings.

Will do in a couple hours when I get home from work. I'm curious too because I just got that GPU and I'm not sure if I'm maximizing its potential. 2.1 looks about the same as my other box with an onboard video card.

In 2.1 we don't have compiz fusion icon anymore so you have to install it from synaptic manager. When you have the compiz crash again type in the terminal the command
compiz replace
and then read carefully what says further in the terminal,it might tell you what's hapening. <BREW>
