Strange audio error connected with filesharing.

Postby Uffe » Mon Mar 02, 2009 5:43 pm

Creating a folder and trying to make it shared results in errors

test1.png

Pressed "installservice" and got this one

test2.png
Transl.: Couldn't make the change! Correct errors on broken packages first.

Pressed "restart" and went to synaptic to correct the broken package it said I have. Synaptic says there are no broken package.
This results in that sound in Youtube, netradio and tvtime is gone. Any attempt to restore it fails.
I then think - reinstall - and rebooted from the DVD. Sound then work again in live session and I thought: Ok, I'll try booting in to the system again. All sound still works when I'm in until trying to share that folder - it crashes again.
I've tried the hole procedure above three time now, just to be sure it isn't a coincident, but it isn't. Oh, and simple reeboting doesn't help, I have to boot the live DVD first to get audio working.

Besides from stop trying to make shared folders, where do I start trying to fix this ?

Searching for samba in synaptic tells me that these 4 packages is installed
libsmbclient 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.5

samba-common 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.5

smbclient 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.5

nautilus-share 0.7.2-0ubuntu7

I then tried to reinstall them but that is impossible to do with the first three - they can only be removed - and if I tried to press remove "libsmbclient" - it gives me a list of 128 packages that have to be removed with it ! I didn't dare press ok to that.
I don't understand why those packages can't be reinstalled, hope someone can enlighten me :?

Commit Log for Tue Mar 3 18:09:51 2009

Ok, not so sure it was a good idea: I think the following has dependences libsmbclient but not the other way around :? libsmbclient 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.5 is not even in the list now - only 3.4 - must somehow be missing a reposetory. So I think it's called "reinstall" unless there is some fancy way to undo it :(

The following packages was removed:

Did the reinstall work? I have the exact same errors when I try to share a folder. I am trying to share with XBMC on an xbox on my network.

nevermind. It seems that Samba is not installed on the 64 bit. I installed it and sharing is working.
