Hi I have installed Ultimate 2.1 ON MY NOTEBOOK HP Compaq 6830s and it is great, you have my compliments: still I have a big problem, sound it is not working. Sound is not working on internal speakers, only on headphones. I have upgradede ALSA to latest versions 1.0.19.
I have this soundcard:
Intel Corporation 82801I (IHC9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03).
Please help me if you can.

Adjust the settings here and see what you get:
If you have no joy that way type sudo modprobe snd-your sound card #)
If that doesn't work see if you can find a linux driver for it somewhere.
Another option is to try another kernel that has the correct module for your sound.
You need the motherboard specs to get the correct audio info(try the manufacturer's website). It will look something like this AL883 or CS4236 for the audio chip.

I don't know about laptops but on my computer I had to go into synaptic package manager and uninstall all the pulse audio packages, once I did that everything worked fine. I made sure ALSA was installed.

I had sort of the same problem, speakers and headphones on at the same time.

i fixed it with this

fixed it by adding this line to alsa-base

options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 model=lenovo
