Did you unplug the ethernet cable when it starts to scan the mirrors?

Yes i did. I always unplug the Ethernet cable, its more than just unplugging the e-cable for the NIC.

I just did a fresh install using unetbootin(it's included with the live iso). Try that. I installed in <15 minutes with no issues. Make sure to set up your partitions first with partition manager.
