Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.1

Professional Article

Postby jnalli » Thu Feb 19, 2009 2:36 pm

I was asked to write an article for a accounting state society IT committee newsletter. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? I am not good at writing. Maybe someone can propose an outline I could use. Of Course I would mention Ultimate. Are there any legal conflicts I need to be aware of? Thanks.

Basically, you can write about anything you want, not knowing what your format is about, I am a little lost. As far as Ultimate Edition is involved, you can write about the good side, or even the bad side...if any. ;)
We still have the freedom of speach..... ;)

Well i you can give two you 2 sites directed towards accounting, business, and finance. there is more.

Accounting on Ubuntu

Linux App Finder

then you like test like 3 or 4 apps. then give your opinon on it. you can follow this format :

Title (Centered or left-aligned)

I. Introduction
A. Premise/Thesis
B. Statement of points
II. Body
A. Point 1
1. Supporting Information
2. Supporting Information
B. Point 2
Supporting Information
Supporting Information
C. Point 3
Supporting Information
Supporting Information
III. Conclusion/Summary
A. Summary of supporting information
B. Conclusion reached
(Restatement of premise)
IV. Citations

I. for the intro you say your doing a trial expirement.then thesis can be a comparison of linux accounting, business, and finance software on linux (Pros & Cons).statement of points can be explaining what type of software, linux platform, system specs
II.body can be explaining A to C 3 or 4 types of apps you used. each software being its own paragraph.
III. give a quick summary. then give your opinon on your trial and error using the apps.
Iv. put foot notes (sources)

this would be the i would do this, maybe you have a different way. hope this helps :)

I think the best place to start is by promoting a simple program with low footprint, like Gnumeric. Then move on to Open Office and then on to more accounting specific software.
It is always good to start simple to get people hooked and then move on to the juicy stuff!!!
Of course, you will have to get a good working knowledge of the software or you will not have any credibility. You will lose people's interest quickly if you sound like you don't know what you are talking about. Make sure that everything you write is accurate. Leave personal taste out of it as best you can. Writing is a real art form and will take many re-writes and spell checks.
Don't forget to use proper punctuation(it's a lost art these days). An avid reader will greatly appreciate that.
p.s. Don't use the members of this forum as guidelines for the English language. For the most part we are not good spellers and are grammatically incorrect sometimes. I see incorrect spelling in this post!!!

Think of something more intriguing to grab someone's attention.
Say 'A new way of accounting'
or 'Accounting re-invented'
or 'Accounting the simple and safe way'
or just 'Safe Accounting' (Linux is much safer ans easier then Windows)

I seem to do pretty well when I have to write for classes. What works for me is:
Get a topic in mind
Write whatever comes to mind
Write some more...
Repeat...
Remove what doesn't have anything to do with the topic
Edit what doesn't flow well. (read it out loud or at least imagine you are) if it doesn't flow off your tongue, rewrite it
When all else is done have it proof read after running SPELL CHECK/GRAMMAR CHECK.
While proof reader is busy with hard copy, stare at your monitor, and come up with a title.
Make sure that the final adheres to the guidelines single/dbl spaced, foot notes, what have you....
Don't forget to turn it in, oh yea, start on it early enough that you can stop for breaks once in a while and let your brain cool for a minute
The glass is neither half empty nor half full. It is functioning 100% effectively @ 50% capacity. It is approximately 75% efficient. I suggest fitting a lid of some sort.

Yes, I would think that security would be of value to a bigger degree in accounting (or any business), than to an individual...This is a link to a very informative thread on the Ubuntu forums site...You could use it as a good reference source for preparing a point of topic about the security of linux vs M$. Hope it helps.
