The Joys of KDE!!!!

Postby BBOSAK2143 » Mon Feb 10, 2014 5:17 pm

Here's KDE's idea of an upgrade if you only have utilities. Now this is so awesome, you mean you're going to give me all the crap I hate and take the programs I use away, now isn't that kind??????

The following packages will be REMOVED:
akregator cervisia dolphin k3b k9copy kate kcolorchooser kde-baseapps-bin
kde-config-pimactivity kde-runtime kde-style-oxygen kde-window-manager
kde-window-manager-common kdelibs5-plugins kdepim-runtime kfind kmail
kolourpaint4 kompare konq-plugins konqueror konqueror-nsplugins kwrite
libcalendarsupport4 libincidenceeditorsng4 libkateinterfaces4 libkdepim4
libkdepimdbusinterfaces4 libkfbapi1 libkgapi2-2 libkolab0 libksieveui4
libmailcommon4 libmailimporter4 libmessagecomposer4 libmessagecore4
libmessagelist4 libmessageviewer4 libpimactivity4 libpimcommon4
libtemplateparser4 partitionmanager print-manager ubiquity-frontend-kde
umbrello
The following packages will be upgraded:
kdelibs-bin kdelibs5-data kdoctools libkcmutils4 libkde3support4
libkdeclarative5 libkdecore5 libkdesu5 libkdeui5 libkdewebkit5 libkdnssd4
libkemoticons4 libkfile4 libkhtml5 libkidletime4 libkio5 libkjsapi4
libkjsembed4 libkmediaplayer4 libknewstuff3-4 libknotifyconfig4 libkntlm4
libkparts4 libkprintutils4 libkpty4 libkrosscore4 libktexteditor4
libnepomuk4 libnepomukquery4a libnepomukutils4 libplasma3 libsolid4
libthreadweaver4

Then you all wonder why I hate KDE so much right? If Gnome had some alternatives, you bet your life would just avoid KDE altogether! I thought I could wrap this thing up in the next day. THANKS KDE YOU MADE MY DAY!

You're doing it wrong. Stop installing KDE. Just install the applications you want.

The programs I wanted had those dependencies so of course I installed them. Other than that, I give how ubiquity kde got in there???? I want kate, konqueror k3b k9 etc! Love those utilities, but the hassles believe me can do without! Believe me, I did a very minimal install only what was needed for those programs only! I did try another trick, just not sure how well things will go? Is leaving me with another list that these can be removed:

kdepimlibs-kio-plugins libakonadi-calendar4 libakonadi-contact4
libakonadi-kabc4 libakonadi-kcal4 libakonadi-kde4 libakonadi-kmime4
libakonadi-notes4 libakonadi-socialutils4 libdmtx0a libgpgme++2 libkabc4
libkalarmcal2 libkcal4 libkcalcore4 libkcalutils4 libkdgantt2-0
libkholidays4 libkimap4 libkldap4 libkleo4 libkmanagesieve4 libkmbox4
libkmime4 libkolabxml0 libkontactinterface4 libkpgp4 libkpimidentities4
libkpimtextedit4 libkpimutils4 libkprintutils4 libkresources4 libksieve4
libktnef4 libkwineffects1abi4 libkwinglesutils1 libkwinglutils1abi3
libkworkspace4abi2 libmailtransport4 libmicroblog4 libprison0 libqgpgme1
libqimageblitz4 libqjson0 libsyndication4 libxcb-composite0 libxcb-damage0
libxcb-xtest0 libxerces-c3.1 libxine1 libxine1-bin libxine1-ffmpeg
libxine1-misc-plugins libxine1-plugins

Do not have a great feeling on it as some are related to video and without k9 or k3b I would not want KDE at all!!!! Those are the must programs, can live without the rest but would be a shame! I really thought I was almost done than all this came up! Damn me for doing apt-get update, did I get the shaft!

Yeah and take a good look in synaptic and you will see KDE pieces is just not possible to run K3b without a KDE base! This is a real b***h and could take a few days for me to straighten out! Mate would be the same thing my friend all counts on KDE! Since this is 13.10 and Ubuntu Repos are pure joy is no doubt I have a bogus piece somewhere! Is going to take time to track it down! This sucks!

Thinking I might have made some bad decision today, I went back to last night's image reopened hit update and I got hit with the same response. KDE wants to rip my choice of programs out and give me crap! No fair in the least and I want to look for some way to bypass these updates and avoid! I have the utilities I want from KDE and do not want them destroyed! So if anyone has some good advice how to knock out updates will sure appreciate it!!!

No way around it, Linux by nature is a Networking Operating System.
You will need a redundant internet conn...

Your problem is hight subjective....
K3B and other KDE progs have no problems running with gnome.
KDE's base is different from gnome.
K3b etc etc will download the necessary dependencies that can be in the hundreds of MB, no way around it...

Streamline the installation process, avoid fracturing or having twisted installation methods.

Your problem is NOT a KDE related problem.

Not understanding that one at all Pam! I mean I simply went to install k3b was told I needed certain components. Accepted put them in, then find out when I go to get some other components that some of the ones that got installed were outdated! Poor repo management! Not my fault or do you think I have control over Ubuntu Repositories???? So I then removed the outdated files and installed the rest of the necessary components. Now, I am being told is all outdated again???? When will this crap end???? This is not the first time have done a build and is not the first time KDE has thrashed the entire thing in the same manner or really I should blame Ubuntu Repositories!!!! Am very upset at all this cause the end result if I would initiate apt-get dist-upgrade is I loose all my KDE programs and am left with scattered KDE components that have absolutely no meaning to anything!!!! I am sure if you can see what I am seeing here, smoke would be coming out of your ears too!

Actually, this post should be renamed to the Joys of Ubuntu Repositories! Am just blown away with all this!!!! Is most likely my luck Will bet when I started the components were for the first Saucy and not the current. See, after doing this am seeing a pattern. I had this happen with Raring also! A few days later and boom all the components I had were junk! Is a real drag when you have the entire OS done or very close and boom, you hit apt-get upgrad and there it goes down the toilet! I mean this is a natural thing to hit before one completes a build. I went to do that last night and now, garbage again! Basically, since I figure you are about 20x more advanced on Linux than I am, maybe you would have an idea how I can just somehow get a breaker on this KDE stuff leave current config as it is. I am not interested in having the entire OS 100% up to date. I can loose on those KDE components as I only have maybe a hundred total of KDE files!!!! I basically wanted maybe about 20 programs of KDE and that is it! This crap upgrade would trash all those programs and leave me with just useless components that have zero, hardly anything to do with programs I have, except to uninstall them!

Solved it! Am just going to use force-version on all those components and be done! Am wore on this Ubuntu Repository crap! Can sure see why TheeMahn maintains his own! The Ubuntu Repos change parts faster than I change my underwear or even type this!!!! Have no desire to have the latest greatest KDE components as all I desire is some programs from them and that is all!!!! I would be installing and re-installing all day today and is just not my gig! I need this OS running by the weekend not by the time 14.10 is released!
