Why, the America theme???

Postby BBOSAK2143 » Mon Dec 30, 2013 11:02 am

America is my country! I served in the Air Force and my father served galantly in World War II against the Japanese in the Philipines. Soon as it came time to sign up, my father did and served 4 and a half years and also earned the Purple Heart! I served in peace time as in 1981 we were really not to close to war at all! I did my best ironically as an Orderly Room clerk tapping away at the IBM Correcting Selectric typewriter!

I also deeply enjoy music and the song that deeply inspired this America theme is by Styx, Styx also recorded their "Cornerstone" album just 2 miles from where I was raised at a studio called "Pumpkin Studios". Now the song I make reference to is called "Suite Madam Blue" which is on the "Equinox" album(cd). It is the most powerful song that asks us to understand the main principles of our country and stand behind those. Leave the trash behind and stick with the original concept is basically the synopsis of that song. I feel is a very patriotic song!

So, after learning how to do themes with Gnome, I have been dying to convey this concept. Of course, I am not in any way a professional at theme creation. I am merely trying to bring in some new looks. I wanted to show my patriotism by creating a theme that just screams "America" because that is how I feel! Our forefathers got together and created the most magnificent and brilliant concept of freedom! The colors they chose to convey this concept stood proud! Now I have tried to also make it stand proud!

For 4 days, I have fought all kinds of hassles with the creation of this theme. America is absolutely nothing like the other themes I have done to this point! Of course what comes with that are leftover problems! I am not able to get the red, white and blue in upper left to show when upper task bar is transparent! I spent a day and a half coloring every png in gtk2.0 to match and work with the theme. Problem is if any other pngs are around it will be chosen over those since they are 3 colored(red, white, blue). So I had to take all my themes and isolate them from America so I could display the results! I worked hard on that coloring and at least 10 times harder than all other themes I have created. It looks alright and in some aspects resembles many of our bicentennial license plates!

I am weary and wore out from diligently working on this theme and have exhausted all I know about theme creation! I do not know what to do with it from here, right now, but if I ever learn I promise I will get it even better! I also hope someone else with the same heartfelt patriotism with more brilliance and intelligence than myself will pick this concept up and correct it, and share it with the rest of us! I simply wanted to make this theme to show my love for my country the United States of America! God bless everyone, hope your New Year's is the greatest. Am thinking about returning to work on it soon! I have taken some of the concepts and have integrated them in newer themes. Of course most are still met with poor response! Change does not seem to ever be regarded so well, when it comes to themes. Most people seem very content to simply disguise their Linux OS's with Windows(YUK! :downthere ) Looks! Not me, will always scream Linux as that is what I use! I am not ashamed when it comes to using Linux as am very proud! I can finally make things look as I like! Not be forced to have it looking as others decided it should look for me!!! Not only that, things work! I have no wish to go back in time and use some OS from 2003! Out with the old, in with the new! When the 14's come out will be there and do my best to assemble again!

Even though at points we become upset with America, we have to remember we are still free in our opinions! We do not get taken away to prison for disagreeing with what a politician may have to offer! This is something we forget at times! There are many countries that do not have the luxury of Freedom of Speech! Also if we do not like our leaders, when election time comes, we simply vote them out! Many countries have dictators so that is not possible! So we must be thankful for what we have!

At present, life may be very difficult for many of us as the economy is fairly trashed! We need action to happen to turn things around, but have to remember to keep things in a peaceful manner. It is our duty as citizens to do the research on prospective candidates for office. We can not sit idly by and depend on what the media has to say! With the power of the PC, we can find those candidates we think will be successful in putting an end to our sufferings! Power of the voting process carries a long way and sends a message to our leaders what has to be done! If we have no faith in our country, how can our country have faith in us??? So just remember, to keep the faith and do your best to keep a positive attitude! I know is hard, but we must do our best and just push on!

Best wishes to all, will be around here and there as time permits and will send a message when theme "America" is repaired and is ready for usage. Present state is hurting, and not real usable as a theme. Hopefully, time will change that!
