Kind of hit home as the same has happened to me with updates and is with all Linux systems! What happens is most of us are in a rush to just hit okay and let a zillion updates start coming on down the net and into the system! Well, sometimes may work, others not! Now I learned when is over 500 megs of updates, to try my best and get things installed by category or things that are related. We are fortunate of having the checkboxes we can uncheck as to insure a more proper installation. Sure this whole deal will take longer, but it does work! Learned it about a year ago, when I too was faced with 800 megs of updates for Ultimate 3.5. First time I waited about 2 hours for all the installs rebooted, did not work right. After that re-installed. I had about 200 updates so did about 50 each time, then would reboot and do another 50. Finally, was done and ran like it had been running, which was quite well! Still am going to stick with what have been saying about the progression of Linux, since its effect is hitting everyone hard. The advancement is to the point if you have an OS that was created 6 months ago is the equivalent of running something that is one year old! I know it sounds drastic, but am being very truthful! TheeMahn knows this fact and is why he is constantly creating new systems.

We then have to take a look at how we are loading our hard drives with these systems. Now, when we go ahead and do the lazy man thing(am just as guilty!) of just letting the system load as it will, without formatting prior, is a huge gamble! The automatic formatting that ensues is sort of cheap, is on the order of trying to dry a wet window with a kleenex tissue! It was designed to be cheap as most developers feel users will be loading onto a clean hard drive or have formatted the drive already! Linux has great utilities such as OS uninstaller, gparted, kpartx etc to accomplish these tasks in the proper manner. We also have great utilities from the hard drive manufacturers that will also format a drive quite quickly. Once the drive is formatted, then one can get a clear idea of how an OS is to function. Have also learned that the hard way!!! Believe me, if you have not read many of my posts will re-iterate have tried many OS's, not all but quite a few. So, I also was lazy and just did quick installs and paid the price with things working like junk, freezing up etc! Then finally realized was my fault, reloaded and was able to give the OS a fair shake!

Next we also have to look at what hardware we are using, since this will also have a great effect on whatever OS we run. Since there are so many variations of hardware is very difficult at time to get systems using the correct drivers at all times and sometimes we have to run the commands as to check and ensure all is proper. Once we know our hardware and system is set, then we can also ensure that gives the system a proper chance. There are just so many factors these days when it comes to systems running correctly! Since I started building my own Linux OS's, have noticed is a real chore! I started building my 3rd system, October 27th and finally is done and running correctly since this weekend! The 2nd OS I built, was done in April and corrected by June!!! Takes time to perfect these systems especially when you contain maybe about 1/10th of what TheeMahn knows!!!! I would say every OS he releases is more stable than any other OS out there, since I have seen many! Also from the amount of knowledge and programs he produces, I quit if that man does not know what he is doing!!!!!

Next we then have to look at his team of awesome brilliance starting with Blackwolf and all mods here! Can you find quicker and better help anywhere else???? I severely and I mean severely doubt it, because I can not! These people look things up, have incredible knowledge and are not afraid to use it at all! Down the posts where problems exist, you can find solutions and pages that will help solve problems even closely related! In the years I used Windows, I never came even halfway close to the support I have received on Ultimate! This is why I will always have a continuing admiration for all staff and TheeMahn! In my book, they are the creme of society and deserve as much credit as they can get!!!! I will always do my best to support them in everything they do!!!!

My fav is Ultimate Edition 4.0 & I find it to be extremely stable. I can say with the utmost certainty you will find Ultimate Edition 3.8 to be likewise. I do not care for Ultimate Edition 3.6, nor Ultimate Edition 3.7. I find nothing wrong with Ultimate Edition 3.4 and Ultimate Edition 3.5 series personally. There is nothing wrong with sticking with them as they are better supported. The release of 3.8 will be a "It is what it is" ie there will not be a Ultimate Edition 3.8.1.

I can by the same token tell you I will not like Ultimate Edition 3.9 & have not even started it just because of KDE. As most people know, I do not like KDE.
