In other words even though ATI says only 13.1 is suited for my 4200HD Radeon, you say to go past that one to a newer version? Kernel Header reinstallation? Did not have to go nowhere near that on my laptop with this OS or the past one I built. Am just getting to think as have read many places that in reality 4200HD Radeon is a dead horse on 13.04. I mean, I really do not see video hassles with current drivers. Have played vidoes on here and since I started using Linux, this was the worst result I ever had for installing drivers for video. Next time I may not be so lucky and would have to reload this OS, which to be honest is something I want to avoid at all costs! I blew it on the build, flat out destroyed it! I was a total sucker for all Gnome's little new toys and it wrecked it! There's a glitch between python and gnome and most times is not a hassle, but I really think when it comes to control, such as command line there is a major issue! This last bout with recovery proves that point! I mean at recovery we are root, correct? So to be turned down due to not having permission shows quite an issue! See you are much more intelligent than I am with the ins and outs of Linux. When not to install something that is beyond the sane thing to do, as I did! Then there is another factor going on. This computer is on quite a bit, I have a cat that chewed the power cord! Cord is so bad that if moved there is a lack of power to it which causes the video to get a green tint! Unfortunately, I can not get it replaced right now and do not want to sing those blues to all, again! Now compiz is working like a charm with those generic drivers. When I last had fglrx installed on the 12.10 I had, here and there I would get things not working correctly. Let's face it, motherboard is sweet on this, but the built in graphics not so sweet and pulls too much juice away from ram to accomplish anything worth a diddle! When was new, was alright, but now is way too abused! Really would just like to know if not having the proper drivers cause that Gnome desktop to choose the lower color? My estimation there is a program error there! I mean to choose dark_fg_color over fg_color to me shows something was not written correctly! Now as I am notorious for my misuse of words, I know it can happen with anyone else on this planet! Incidentally, I did give the above a shot and came up with the same error about that part missing. As I say getting to think that cat also wrecked it for me as that cord is rough! Thanks for all your help, you are at the top of your game with all this, me just hoping to move ahead and get better at it!!!
