Trying Mac OS

Postby tanmay.01 » Fri Jul 19, 2013 6:45 am

I have never used Mac Os extensively till now. I know it was build of a bsd so want to check if it will suit me to build a hacintosh(legal one ;) )
I have installed mac in virtual box. Lets see how it goes.
There are some changes like , i dont see a root folder its sorted in system, library, user folders.
There is option to have your own key bindings. Its not that rigid.

The biggest thing i noticed today that its window manager does not do tilling, the dock does not have auto hide feature (meaning it should hide when i max a window). The global menu does not integrate with the title bar like in unity wtf. (Ubuntu has done good job on Unity )

More mice is needed than the keyboard

I am not making major opinions till i use it for some days . Will update again.

I used one of those giant imac things around 2008, pretty new at the time, and I still felt severely limited. Perfect for my Grandma, although honestly she is not bad with computers and knew her way around Windows rather well. She should because I grew up with my Grandparents :p.

Anywho....

Bear in mind,

that the laws of various countries differ but

In the United States you may be breaking the law..

While Snow Leapord and the such can be run legally VM, it is only technically legal on an Apple.

I have used Hazard OSX in a VM before. The way I see it, you paid for a copy so why not use it wherever you want?

I have been forced to use OS X for around 4 years..TO LONG. Maybe it will be different for you...

In 2 days what i seem missing are my apt-get's SUPER COW POWER. Though there is brew. The installing of packages is really sad but there is one positive. Incase you want to reinstall. You have the pkg with you. Version dependency is not a major problem.

The other thing is, you can use linux distro as thin client cum server or server cum thin client. I dont see that with mac os.

And the keybindings are 3 key's and mostly confusing. I am someone who goes with 2 key's and keeps them simple. (May be they were inspired with emacs ;) LOL)
