A wish for Linux!

Postby BBOSAK2143 » Sat Mar 16, 2013 7:23 pm

Here' is the point. Linux is a continually updating OS. Now if I were to decide to go to another distribution, I would then load it up and if it has been on the server for a month, boom am socked with probably about 200 mbs to update! To most with cable, that is no issue. Some of us out here are stuck on wireless, satellite or even phone line. To add to that we have limitations, such as myself at 5gigs of data per month. Now that I have delved into my own Ubuntu using Ubuntu Builder(UB). I leave UB where it is at with my OS. Each time an update comes in, I open UB up and add it in. Now if I can do this, wouldn't it be nice if others would do the same? This is my wish for Linux, that this will happen. I still have my copy of Ultimate Edition 3.5(12.04 build), now if I were to suddenly disband my OS and go back to it, I would wind up with around 2 gigs of downloads!!! Now that would be rough!!! That would mean I would only have 3gigs left on my data plan for the rest of the month! Is a little hard to swallow and a shame for those of us in this predicament. It also does shed light to the fact most great developers such as TheeMahn constantly build new OS's to help us not have to break our limits. I also know UB can be used as I use it to just keep the system updated. I know some might say is a crazy idea, but I just think would be nice if all systems could be continually updated everyday or as updates come in, just so users as myself do not get socked so bad. I know if I ever get all this down pat with admin and get my own site up, I guarantee that is how I will do it! Of course, I also want to state, do not want to suggest something like a service pack! Am sorry have seen that dreadful approach for a long time and seems is a major time consuming deal!!!! I enjoy these daily or a few times a week updates, they always come in when necessary and always make things run better!!!! I am constantly seeing it on my own system and is the best sight to see when things work better!!!!

This is a real strong point why I hold on to this OS I built! I know if I crash right now, I have my flash drive waiting to reload the system. All is to the very latest update which was received Friday morning! Is an awesome feeling to know would be right at the same place I am with everything loaded in about an hour! Now that is a far cry from taking all day!!!! For those of us in school or where our jobs required heavy time on our own computers, is something that is a must! I am in hopes and wishes others will come to understand this point! We all know even the greatest of OS's can not beat mechanical failure such as a hard drive failing! I have learned this point time and time again!!!! I have seem this approach in Beos with their Haiku OS. Sure they are still in an alpha stage, but there are nightly builds!!! Just hope and wish for this to come to light! Have some ideas, just sure wish I did not lack the intelligence to carry them out!!!!

To close this out, there is no offense meant to any Linux OS! The many flavors are what makes Linux the most interesting! I also mean no offense to updates, in fact, I believe these developers need to be commended for their efforts! Most are faster acting, than a snake and its prey!!! I have seen small errors wiped out within a day of their arrival!!!! Takes brilliance and sheer know how!!!! I just think it would be awesome for every flavor of Linux to always have the update version available!!!!
