Just Tried Ultimate 3.5

Postby The Critic » Thu Jan 03, 2013 6:39 pm

Hello, I just thought I'd drop in to thank you for the release.

ALot of work has gon into it and all I can say, WHAT A MESS!!!

The Build is so filled with too much redundant stuff and the Apps crashing all the time, you just
can't mix every desktop like this and expect harmony. Like I said what a mess. The Dark theme is quite juvenile.

Any good to report? Yes throwing this junk away and installing Sabayon Linux 10 - a real OS with a hardened kernel

lol. Sabayon, ha ha ha. Enjoy the breakage it's going to happen. I remember when Sabayon took 15 minutes to boot to GUI. And you said hardened kernel, lol. Looks like all the patches made for Sid (Liquorix, PF), thats just a little far behind in the Gentoo world, lol. If you want a rolling release that doesn't break every month try SID. It may be too much for this mainstream novice attitude but it will save you the headaches. I think Mint is more your speed, since your review was so obviously misleading. All Ultimate Edition users know to update the sources and software through Tweak before running updates. That throws about 15 minutes of your review in the trash. And if there is anything to critisize, any educated Linux user would know it's more likely that Ubuntu is the culprate, not Ultimate Edition. That is why the releases get worse after 2.9, cause Ubuntu got worse after 10 dot. Didn't think to mention that now. And the Software and Desktop selection are for the users, hence the title Ultimate Edition. Do you really think that any distro with Ultimate in the title is going to have a bare minimum selection? What a joke. Sorry Blackwolf, I couldn't let this go.

Yah Yah Yah! Sabayon tooth tiger way to go! Nothing like having a distribution that just disables half of the things instead of trying to solve the problem!!!!!! Been there tested it and not thrilled with it! Ultimate Edition 3.5 has every desktop in it. Is as functional as it is possible!!!!! Sure there are going to be a few hassles running every single desktop Linux has to offer! I simply dare you to find another distribution that can function this properly with minimal flaw!!!!! Of course where does the flaw reside? I will bet you in the architecture itself!!!!! Is one of those nasty creatures that is hard to get to the bottom of! Also will state, when I belonged to that forum of Sabayon's and just mentioned a flaw, here's the response I got. "If you think you could do a better job, then build your own OS!" . I guess this is another part of the reason mine is now in its infancy! At the time I was very upset with their brash response! Now I realize their developers aren't half as swift as TheeMahn. Probably about a quarter, if that! Least Ultimate's forum helps everyone, doesn't make you do the pastebin stuff and then send you an email 6 months later for a solution!!!! Am not lying as I received an email in the second week of December! Funny thing so long about I can't remember what the problem was!!!! Yeah real great way to run an OS and forum, have fun and good luck! You'll be back when you wake up!!!!!

wow!!
you want everything that is the latest and greatest......'its not updated'
maybe you can use a rolling distro.......'its not updated'
try arch linux....even better try gentoo.......'its not updated...

this post is old, its not updated..

kindly wait for a newer post, its not updated...it will be many hours since you would read this post--its not updated.

sarcasm apart.........

You forget, Ultimate Edition is based on Ubuntu and the problems are inherent, couple that with gpu drivers and a half-cooked kernel .....the end result
is not good..
i agree that removal of older and discontinued packages along with fewer desktop environments would translate to a much better os but upgrading to the
latest can render the system volatile. Change something and it wont tolerate....

Ill never Sabayon is bad, because it has journeyed a million miles since i used it the first time and i admire it and its based on Gentoo.

All distro's are great until you change hardware, use RAID, populate all sata ports, pci slots and Crossfire and SLI....

Anyways the problems have all been sorted and you can refer the howto sections on this forum....NO crashes, No braking, No need to run in virtualbox either.

i liked sabayon when i tried it but gave it up as a stable os because it kept screwing up the video drivers. and was annoying to fix. otherwise it was good, i've not tried it in a long time so dont know what the recent incarnations are like.

i like 3.5 using KDE and XFCE it may not be "bleeding edge" but for me it works and i love all the bundled programs / apps the more the merrier i say. and as far as i've seen all the ones i've tried, work.

Agree with you synergy!!! Forgot to mention the hassles with Rico that fabulous repo manager that just gives you a bunch of outdated software! Very much fun! Every time you open a program, there's a lovely update message waiting for you!!!! Over here, the update comes out, you get it right there and then! You also have the independence to choose what you want!!!! You don't have to ask "Hey Dear Rico, do you have that program, I need real bad?" No, just look up on one of our package managers or download the source and install!!! Then you have the support of people that know what they are doing and just don't pretend!!! No desktop is ever perfect due to all the elements that go into making it appear on screen!!!! This is as close as it gets! Sure am messing around making my own, but is for learning purposes and the possibility of constructing an OS that will be suitable to students in the same career field I am working towards!!! AAS in BIT. I am seeking to conquer some areas to make it a more simplified educational environment! But 'nough of that sad harp deal now and back to the main! I tried Sabayon 10 and is very disappointing! The previous version was a little nicer, but once updates started coming, dusted it! Spent many hours futzing with it, way too many to list! Then I landed here!!!! Now this is like landing on a beach in Hawaii and being served by beautiful women!!! Is a strange way to put it(please no one take offense!), but this is how I feel about Ultimate and its staff compared to all other Operating Systems!!! The long hours I spend now are for learning, not working on the system fighting to keep it running!!!!!! I simply dare you to find a better OS, why? because I am 99.8% sure that does not exist! Since I have yet to put Arch linux to the test, I had to leave that percentage in there! Just laugh a little too much at the command line with that pacman stuff!!! Hey look at my age!!! Grew up in that time period!!!! So yes reminds me of the machines and can't stop laughing!!!(Once again no offense meant!) Just love it here is the best OS and the best forum I have ever belonged to!!!!!

I am understanding of you wanting to promote your favorite OS, I too, try to push Ultimate Edition, except in an entirely different fashion. Meaning...I do not go to say...Crunchbang, and tell them they suck because it is not like Ultimate. Sabayan may be great, IDK, but the only thing that sucks for sure is you, and your favorite OS is now tarnished by association.

And now, the completely true facts, as told by an anonymous man hiding behind a screen name:
