When was the last time you were hit by a 230 pound 6 foot three tank at 35 miles an hour. When was the last time you were sliced in the neck by a razor blade(can you even ice skate?). When was the last time someone punched you in the head with hands like sledgehammers a dozen times and they only got a 5 minute penalty? That is what it is like to play NHL hockey. In soccer you get kicked out of the game for looking at the referee the wrong way. Now as far as conditioning goes soccer is definitely the hardest sport to play. Tough Guy sport. Give me a break. Diego Maradona(arguably the best soccer player of all time) was 5'8" tall and 172 pounds. Zdeno Chara(who plays for Boston Bruins) is 6'9'' 261 and can skate over 30 miles an hour. Usain Bolt(the fastest runner in the world) is at 23 mph. Take a good look at these faces(you may change your mind). One of these guys would eat the entire soccer team and go back for seconds!!

A guy died in junior hockey game after a fight a few weeks ago. Here are a few images of the result of fighting in a hockey game: http://www.thestar.com/article/561191

That is an accident. This is premeditated!! You cannot compare full contact sports like pro hockey and American football to soccer and basketball. The only reason they wear equipment is that they would die without it. There are more concussions and life threatening injuries than any other sports in hockey and football. Don't get me wrong, you have to be tough to play soccer and basketball, just not as tough as hockey or football. You or I wouldn't last one shift(hockey) or play(football). We could last a few minutes on a basketball court or a soccer pitch. Mind you , the other players would be laughing at us pretty hard. Don't you ever watch Joes versus Pros. The one with Claude Lemieux(retired hockey player). He kept putting the Joes on their asses again and again and he wasn't even trying.
p.s. That story of you getting hit in the head with an 80 mph baseball explains a lot to me!!!

From my post 'You cannot compare full contact sports like pro hockey and American football to soccer and basketball' (not baseball). Do you need glasses?

Strider, you would be knocked unconscious with one check(or punch) if the guys could stop laughing long enough to hit or punch you.

Hey,we just felt in an innocent constructive polemic.Despite the fact I'm an european I really hate the soccer.I hate the extreme violent supporters, the very spoilt and to much damn good payed soccer players, and the generalized corruption in this "sport".

I like you Strider, you remind me of DaddyX. It's good to see you have a pulse. You have a slight issue with ageism, but other than that you are O.K. Hell, the post says Hi and Rave, so we are raving(as in raving lunatics). Unless you have played pro sports, you have no idea of what it's like. I played college hockey for a very short time and got a small taste of what it is like. We played a exhibition game against the University of Toronto Blues and they beat us 21-1. I scored the only goal in the game(we spent most of the game on our asses). The only reason I got the goal was because someone in the bleachers blew a whistle and the other team thought it was the referee(I could skate like the wind but I was only 145 pounds at the time). I just put the puck in net when the goalie moved. Needless to say, my career was very short lived. I played all the sports in high school and the two most dangerous are hockey and football by far(the serious injury stats don't lie). Concussions, paralysis, death are all a possibility.
F.Y.I. Pro hockey is the only major pro sport where you do not get kicked out of the game for fighting.
Here are a few soccer links: http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/ranki ... nking.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_World ... statistics
Only seven teams have ever won the world cup of soccer and Mexico, Canada and United States are not there along with the hundreds of other countries in the world that play soccer.
Brazil is the best, followed closely by Italy and the Germany(my team-I have Germanic background).

You have to understand that Hockey is king in Canada, and if you said something bad about it on your visit to Canada someone would probably kill you(It might very well be a woman). Who knows, some Canuck may be on his way to your house as we speak. There is a saying up here "Have you got change for a 10 spot. Yeah, I got two fives".
