Actually, I like Windows 7. It is much better than Vista. Mind you it is a resource hog but with ram so cheap and much better on board video that is no longer an issue. Windows 7 is more like XP in functionality with the eye candy of Vista. I'm sure once they get all the bugs worked out, it will rock!! Who knows, I may just purchase a copy(stranger things have happened). You will however have to rethink your software choices. Some of the older software does not work really well with it(Like Nero 6). And no, Windows does not suck. If it did nobody would use it. Give the general population a little more credit than that. We choose to use Linux because we like to learn about computers and keep all our options open. I am running close to ten operating systems now. I am always in search of new software and techniques and knowledge. For the general public, Windows serves it role in society. I prefer Linux, but that is just my opinion(it's more of a challenge and a hell of a lot of fun). Nuff said!!

I'm sorry you have such a bitter attitude towards people and corporations considering where you live. Unfortunately, money makes the world go around and none of us can change that. Technology advances and we can't change that either. If we want to save time and have all the latest and greatest, buying new hardware is a must. F.Y.I. Xp will run on 256 megs of ram Ultimate 384. Try running compiz-fusion on < 128 megs of video ram!!!
I build a new computer every two years. I have accepted that fact. What's a couple of grand every 2 years to make me happy(that's 2000/730=<3 dollars a day). Try and find something else that will keep you entertained for hours and do so much that costs only 3 bucks. You have to look at the big picture here(see the forest for the trees). What's a couple of hundred bucks for an operating system if you like it. Hell, I used to drop 200 bucks in a bar in one night back in the day.
What I would like to see, however, is Windows give away their operating system to people that can't afford it. Maybe Obama can convince them that this is the moral thing to do. I'm not just talking third world countries either. United States has enough poor people that are desperately in need of help. Computers are knowledge, and knowledge leads to peace and prosperity!! Come to Canada or Australia and see for yourself. We are very similar countries. We help each other out. We feed our poor and give medical attention to our sick. And it doesn't matter what colour your skin is or what your religious and sexual beliefs are.

You should have never used Vista. I did a lot of research about it and stuck with XP. Hell, if Windows 98 still had virus support I probably would still be using that. XP promised better hardware support and better protection(Yea right!!). 98 would run great on 128 megs of ram 2 megs of video memory and you only needed a 10 gig hard drive. You can find a computer like that now in the garbage(like the one you cleaned). A friend of mine has a laptop which is a PII 333 cpu 256 p100 ram 2.5 megs of video ram 5.5 gig hard drive(with a faster hard drive it would be better) and after some registry hacks(and turning off unnecessary services) and using lightweight software it runs XP not too bad. Mind you, the boot up time is brutal, but once its up and running and you have opened up everything you will be using it is tolerable. The only Linux it will run are TinyMe. Puppy, DSL or PCLinuxOS(forget Ubuntu). For what a lot of people use a computer for that is enough. He surfs the web, plays Pogo, listen to radio and networks to his other computer to access his music and videos and it all works just fine. When he travels it suits his needs.

Well, Uffe, I downloaded the Windows like os. For the life of me I couldn't get anything to install or get on the internet. It crashed on me a few times and I had to dig out my trusty ball mouse(it didn't like the usb one). It reminded me more of Windows 95(When you bought something new it was always and adventure). The concept is great and a lot of effort went into it, however, until you can install something I don't see it replacing anyone's desktop anytime soon. Too bad, because it would probably run on a PI with 64 megs of ram. The whole thing is about 110 megs. I'm sure once more time is spent on it it will be very useful for people who have a very old computer and would like to get a little more time out of it. Keep pluggin' away boys, that's what I have to say!!

Hi pch.shot.
I didn't expect you to try it :D It's not ready for much yet - they are not very many programmers and have worked on it in quite many years - and according to their forum there can go years before they are in stable. But they keep on - slow but steady - and in time I hope it can be used for the very few programs I only can use in win and, as far as I have seen, not can run in emulators.

and, pch.shot its also cost on average 30 to 60 dollors a year to run a pc .at least in the usa.
