I was reading with hope that I would get to something saying how nice the blu ray played... ( I know it was dream )I enjoy watching the Blu Ray's on my high def monitor and its very convenient when I dont want to be in the living room with the big screen. I enjoy hiding in my cave when I can lol.

as far as i know(and ive been in my cave for a few days looking for info)the only way to play hd is to rip it to you're hard drive,or download a hd file.i tried to use every free source player there is and non of them didnt play the hd files.then i thought hmmm........what the hell, opened up xbmc found the hd files and played em 8-) im not 100 percent sure im seeing true 1080p,sense i cant get my ati card that high in linux, but it sure looks freaking good.

all in all,ive tried every linux, and close to all the window media software there is.i have to admit xbmc will find a permanent space in my make shift theatre room.hell maybe in the tv room too.soon ill be looking to port it with myth i found some info on it,and thank god someone made easy instructions :D .im no coder, ill leave that up to threeman, and the other coding gods.(and i think its due for me to say.....Thank you Threemahn, very much.)this is the first time ive actually used ubuntu as a primary os(i always used pclinuxos),and i think you made it easy for all of us <BREW>

anywho, ill get the digital sound issue this week, and pipe in to let you all know how it go's.

hey,

I still don't have an update for the sound yet.ive been looking into the xbmc and mythtv stuff.but I have an question.ive searched the linux help at xbmc ,but I don't fully understand yet.does the http server for xbmc allow you to stream video?or is it just used as a remote control to use on a cell phone and such?

I have xbmc running on my main box.I go to my laptop and I can access it through http:/the main's ip#:8080.
but all I can do is control the xbmc on the main box.

Playing 1080p High Def video has a lot more to do with your processor, video card and monitor than what player you are using. Dual Core processors plus video cards rated for 1080p will have no problem. Anything less than that is going to be a stretch at best.Playing HD video off the internet also requires a very fast connection and a big server at the website. I can play certain files from the Internet(I have 512 Internet speed) but in some cases I have to download the video first and then play it.

From what I read (at least with ati)the video drivers(in linux) wont let the gpu do the "work"when it comes to playing hd stuff.it off loads the load to the cpu.so...you should be able to get away with lower end gpu,(if it can output hd)if you have a really stout cpu.(now i wished i save these links).linux relies on software, not hardware to decode and play hd(not you're gpu)which gets dumped on the cpu.I know it will get better in time with ati linux drivers.

As for my post above.I am trying to stream non hd,and music. But im not 100% sure what that feature allows you to do in xbmc.

UPDATE:

well i successfully installed mythtv.(hint:when myth asks you for a password don't put anything in.just use the generated pass it gives you,it will make life easier ;) I also ported xbmc with myth to act as a front end using these instructions:
http://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=MythTV
and heres the script to put into xbmc:
http://mythbox.googlecode.com/files/myt ... 682.tar.gz

all in all it works good. xbmc is a little skittish with the myth script, but its being improved.im happy.i also downloaded and installed the ati driver from ati web site.it works better than the driver from the repos(at least for me it does)this took care of the hd movies dropping frames.ill try to get my pc up to the theater room tonight and see if the digital works with my reciever.

thanks for all the great input in these forums, ive shaved some time from google just buy staying here <BREW>
