I work in a sort of sequence, all the way to the disc drive. To the plug on my PC. Lol. Idk.

You may have to get a book, and start with learning about Unix, bin/sh, bash(born again shell) or stick to a certain environment(shell(Gnome,Unity, Gnome Classic, Mate, Explorer, Cinnamon, KDE,etc...) and stay there, coping with whatever comes along.

Or install #!.

If you can use #!, you can probably deal with whatever.

Even using DosBox for a few days, installing abandonware, will get you places...It really depends..for me it all starts to blend together, but I am painfully behind on subjects like servers which makes me a loser in the Linux world, lol.

Honestly..3.4 Lite is probably the best release in a while. I can not recommend any of the 10.04 based at this point..but they were beautiful, especially the 2.6 series. 3.4 Lite is very Ultimate Edition, way more so than 3.4 or 3.5. It is Mate, but there are some differences in custom settings and full compiz integration, making it more like the Gnome 2 based versions.

Arch is great for learning setup of linux distributions from the ground up. If you can set it up, you can set anything up. I had lots of fun with it.

Try using gnome-classic or mate with compiz...wont crash, maybe Never.
If you are using prop drivers for radeon, you will have a sturdy system when using compiz(..not kde though).

Arch is excellent for learning. Provides the 'tool torquing' effect of Gentoo when learning, along with Debian's stability and ease of use and packages like those of ubuntu....Once past that you can check this forum for Theemahn's topic 'Build with me'.
