(solved)want compiz effects from ue3.4 in ue3.5

Postby boarder428 » Sat Apr 27, 2013 10:59 am

Does kde desktop not support the effects that the desktop in 3.4 has? I really like the random effects setting in Ultimate Edition 3.4, I have tried to add the same effects and setting in Ultimate Edition 3.5 but do not seem to get any random effects after doing so?

The question is off.

Ultimate Edition 3.4 and 3.5 have the same compiz effects available.

KDE can use Compiz but it will crash. KDE will crash...anyways...it just will.

KDE uses kwin.

To change the Window Manager click on the compiz cube in the right hand corner

compicon.png

To change kwin effects, go to

systemsettings-->desktop effects-->all effects

These are the settings, they are vast and many...

kwin.png

Also...in a stock Ultimate Edition 3.5 KDE running KDE 4.8.5, many may not work. Even if they do work, changing a single setting the wrong way can freeze and disable your desktop. It is kind of like the warning you see in CCSM but you don't get a warning and it is far more critical here.

To make things more dire, if the settings do work, you may not find out until you reboot. So you could accidentally disable your desktop, tring to do something you may have already done..you just didn't reboot.

Compiz, does work...in LXDE,XFCE, and Gnome Classic without hardly any issues, except you may have to get rid of Unity.

LOL! If they're gonna crash my system I don't want them. You mentioned that they may or may not work in unity? Black opal is Unity and they seem to work. What's the difference? Does Unity use gnome? Hope it's not a silly question, just trying to understand how it all works!

The focus of Black Opal being an Oz Unity release is as you can imagine..Unity.

Unity is built from Gnome and Compiz.

I mentioned that Unity may have to be removed..I didn't actually think of how well it works with Unity. I find that using Gnome Classic with Compiz makes the Unity plug-In appear or the entirety of Unity will drop right over it. I have pictures here somewhere.

Cool thanks, i marked it solved!
You've got alot of good knowlage about Linux, wish I could say the same Lol! <BREW> Where can I got to learn more about how a distro is actually put together?
I'm still trying to figure out how all theses different enviroments, window managers / window decorators corellate. I like and dislike different features of each, just sucks that i can't get everything i like to work in one distro.
