Window Manager switching by itself...

Postby dougal » Thu Oct 20, 2011 4:42 am

My window manager resets to default install settings.
This posted from another discussion:

As a short term work around I simply click on the Compiz Settings Manager icon and click the 'Reload Window Manager'.
This sets my window theme back to my preferred options.
To me this would suggest that something is checking the system now and then for some reason and resetting the window manager to the original install settings.
Although, I quite like the original I can't always get the colours I need to work in for certain environments as some options can be difficult for me to read with the font and background colours set as they are.

So I don't know if this helps but, it is something to do with the default install setting perhaps...

I have had no issue with this since changing to Ultimate Edition 2.6 on both my laptops.
Something else that I don't get is the option to upgrade the Ubuntu version which was proving to be a real pain in the butt.
It was getting to be very frustrating having to 'NOT UPGRADE' every time the Update Manager showed up.

Anyways Bill Ultimate Edition 2.6 does seem to be the answer for me. I can't see the difference between this and 2.9.
Everything I could do in 2.9 I can do in 2.6. Apps are all there and eye candy is just as good. Makes me wonder why I bothered going through all the versions to 2.9 now...

How did you get on Bill? Have you installed 2.6.5? Has the issue gone away?
I still think some update last year reset things somewhere. Did you ever get rid of the annoying offer to 'Update system' to the new Ubuntu version?
As I have said, I have had no problems since installing 2.6. I have also played with 3.0 and now 3.0.1 and both seem to be fine with Compiz so far. I dumped 3.0 coz I plain didn't like it. It wasn't a smooth as 2.9 for me and this 3.0.1 version,,, well... it is early days and I will have to se how it goes.

I have to move this weekend, so I am not going to do a whole lot with my system. Live gets too full sometimes.
