Ubiquity error during install

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.0

Ubiquity error during install

Postby eresendes » Tue Nov 18, 2008 11:32 am

When I click on the "Install" shortcut on the desktop, I get the following error message:

Application Problem
Sorry, the program "ubiquity" closed unexpectedly.

I clicked close and the install never starts. Is there away around this issue?

I'm having exactly the same error, but it occurs at the end of the install. When I click on Close I'm left with the default Live CD desktop. After reboot installation will restart like no previous install was attempted before.

I have checked the Mod5sum on the iso and it's Ok, burned twice to DVD first time using Brasero, last time using k3b, both times at 4x and after verifying it says everything is Ok.

This was installing Ultimate Edition 2.0 x64 on Intel Core i7 onto SATA Drive after receiving no feedback on attempts to install onto SAS Drive as per this post:

Does anyone know a workaround for this?

Thanks in advance

Try a different optical drive to install(or a usb flash drive using unetbootin). They are very sensitive pieces of crap. Linux is more sensitive to crappy hardware than Microcrap!!!
Another way is to use Gparted from the live disc to format and partition your hard drive first with ample swap.
Allow for a minimum of 10 gigs for the OS, and depending on how much ram you have, a swap partition(>2 gigs you don't need a swap unless you are planning on using hibernation mode).

Thanks for your reply pch.shot

On the PC I burned the iso I first used a NEC DVD burner and the second time a Pioneer DVD burner, the PC I'm trying to install has dual Samsung SATA DVD burners, tried from both of them.

I'm not familiar with unetbootin, I'll look it up.

The / partition has 20GB as XFS, RAM is 6GB DDR3 Tripple channel (for Core i7) and Swap is 2GB.

Plain Ubuntu 8.10 installed without problems.

Any ideas as to how to solve this situation will be very appreciated.
