Instalation freeze on NEC Mate MY0V/FE-1

WoW! All that sounds very techy. I'm not sure where video cards are or really even what they look like. I was told by the sales person that there is no way to change the video card or add a vieo card to the machine though. I'm sure this is not really true, but it would imply that durring the refurbishing they did not add one to it. However I will happily check for it if you can tell how to do so, where to look, and what I'm actually looking for.

If that requires more time than you wish to invest her, I understand. I wouldn't expect you to sit there and walk me through taking my computer apart, that7s a lot of work I'm sure.

What about the PPOE. Could you tell me how to set up a broadband connection and where I can input the user ID and Password from my ISP?

Thanks again for your help Amir.

Hi Amir,
I'm afraid you've lost me with this. I'm not trying to set up a wireless network. This is a wired broadband connection. And I don't know what you mean by Hidden. Why is this a hidden connection? I'm not trying to do to anything special here, just to set up a basic broadband connection.

I'll try what your saying, but it seems like a kind of work around for something that should be a basic function. Also, please remember that I don't have Ultimate Edition installed. It doesn't load up, I am working on the Alpha 6 of Ubuntu 9.10.

Thanks for your help, you sound like a busy person.

Hello szaemon

Thanks for your help, you sound like a busy person.

well busy of help the community well yes.
but just to set wired network it is very easy actually.
you just have to log in to your modem, configure your network to be DHCP.

now in simple language for you ;)
to log in to the modem is to write the address in the address bar in the place that you see
the address of the page that you look on this post:
posting.php?mode=reply&f=43&t=3837

now there depends what is the modem network address like:
Code: Select all
192.168.0.10
10.0.0.138
127.0.0.1

you just tape the numbers like you see and hit the Enter.
then you will see pop up with user name and password.
there you need to insert :
Code: Select all
user name=Admin
password=Admin

now when you inter to the modem option,
you have to look if the connection is DHCP/server is configure to DHCP.
what this say that you have Automatic IP address.
then you don't need to make icon to connect to the net.
it will connect you Automatic to the net.
then you go to the monitors icon up right ,right click on the icon,
EDIT connections, then here is what you need to do there.

hope you gut me now,and it was easy to gut.

BTW- just for the understanding hidden connection is the place to EDIT your Wireless network.

hope you now gut the answer that you look for ;)

szaemon wrote:My connection is Broadband, whatever that exactly means. And what I ned to find in Ubuntu is the place to put in a user ID and password assigned to me by my ISP. I was told that in Windows Terminology it is called a PPOE, and it would be found under account settings when you first try to connect. You type it in once, then the computer saves the ID and Password and the user never has to think about it again.

Hi szaemon,
Networking and internet connections are not my strength, but Iĺl try to help as best as I can. Try the following if Admin-Amirś advice doesn´t help and let us know how it goes.
How to configure PPPoE in Ubuntu:
1) Go to System > Preferences > Network Configuration.
2) Go to DSL tab (inside the Network Configuration window)
3) Press the Add button.
4) At Connection Name enter a name for your connection (you can enter everything you like).
5) If you want to connect automatically you can check Connect Automatically
6) At Username and Password enter the username and password your ISP provided.
7) Press OK.
8) To connect to the Internet using PPPoE select your connection from the Network choser at the top panel (somewhere near Volume and Date).

Hey Amir, my ISP says that I can't enter the modem without a router. Is this true? Is there some way to get into the modem without using a router, because my one man office does not have one. What if I bring the router from my house down to the office and plug it in? Will it work just like that or does it need to be configured or something to work with a different computer?

I think I understand what you mean for me to do. I need to flip a switch on the modem to accept a certain kind of connection. I just looked at the network settings on this system and they're all set the same as the one at the office, so I guess that leaves just the modem to be configured.

Moebius, between the User ID Box and the Password Box is a Box that says"Service". Any idea what I would input there?

Thanks a lot to both of you for holding my hand and walking me through this, I do think I am starting to understand this stuff a little.
Good Night

I don't believe this to be the case.

szaemon wrote:Is there some way to get into the modem without using a router, because my one man office does not have one.

Yep - Follow Admin-Amir's advice: Open up Firefox and in the address bar at the top, type in one of these (just the numbers - no http: or http://www..):
192.168.0.10 or
10.0.0.138 or
127.0.0.1
The one that works will depend on your modem, so work your way through them until you get a log in screen to appear. Once the log in screen appears, it will ask for user name and password - type 'admin' for both and you should be in. Then keep following Admin-Amirs post.

In all the posts that I have read, they suggest leaving it blank.

Hope it helps. :)

Hi Guys,

I'm back. I wish I could say that all the help you've given me solved my problem, but...

...So, I've tried those 3 addresses that you gave me:
192.168.0.10
10.0.0.138 or
127.0.0.1

Plus the one that my line company told me was the address of the modem, none of them got me into the modem. I also brought over the router from my house, tried connecting it to the computer in varrious ways. I'm not sure exactly how it should hook into the system, but I tried all the combinations possible. That didn't help either.

I have noticed that my modem "VH-100E <N>" has 4 tiny switches on the back of it. Could these have some function related to changing it over to DHCP?

This problem is now quite different from the intial help request that I posted, I think forum protocol dictates that I should post a new question on the board under a more a fitting title. Not sure how to make a link to the new post, so if you are willing to continue helping me, please look for this new topic:

"How do you set a VH-100E <N> modem to DHCP?"

Thanks Again Guysfor all you time and help!
