Upgrade from 8.04

i'm currently writing from Ultimate Edition 1.9 ( LiveCD )

on my hdd is currently installed ubuntu 8.04 and i want to upgrade to Ultimate Edition 1.9

My big question is if i will loose any data ?

I think you can save your home folder. I keep all my stuff on a separate hard drive and use one partition on the other for my operating system and software. Then I just do a clean install instead of upgrading(upgrading is neither faster nor easier). If you have only one hard drive split it into partitions, that way you never have to worry about losing data(unless the hard drive fails-that's what disc backup is for).
