upgrading to 8.10

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.9

I just upgraded a box of a friend from UU 1.8 to Ubuntu 8.10... The result was strange. While Using compiz, he can't get the Minimize\Maximize\Close buttons (they just are absent). Tried reinstallation of nvidia drivers etc but it only works with metacity... May be its just a matter of luck or my friend just messed things up.

My opinion till now: Disappointed on Ubuntu's Upgrade...

Look in the ccsm(compiz settings manager)then go to effects and see if you have window decoration checked...I know that was necessary for those buttons to show up before on previous editions

I have taken this computer a few months back. I might be able to find some old pics of it though.

The old water kit is just a Cooler Master 2-bay cooler. I now has a home inside my Tahoe. I am making a carputer for it since the sweet dash-mounted G4 died in August due to the NC 110+ heat. I am going to install a mini-atx motherboard and a Xenarc 7" touch screen a wrapped up in a custom center councel. If everyone likes Fusion on my laptop, wait until I do some wicked window throwing and screen burning with my finger! The water setup should work nicely and I can use whatever video and audio codec I want to use.

Yes, there will be lights, hoses, and a post of the whole project on the truck forum I live on. It may take some time however because of the tight funds and the gas prices being the way they are.

It's not a silly question...are you asking about all the settings you currently have??? I'm pretty sure you will have to do a fresh install, since you will be going from "Hardy" to "Ibex" but I'm sure someone will be along to tell you about your settings, if that is what you're asking about... :D

Hi.
I updated my Ultimate Edition 1.9 32bit though "Update handling" yesterday(I'm not quite sure of that name, it's a translation of what it is called in the danish menu). It took a H... of ours but went well.
In that process the file browser "Dolphin" also has bin updated to version 1.1. In the old version one could open or run a file with the option "open as root", that function seems to been removed - I can't find it anyway in any of the menu options. I miss that function cause I much prefer to do things graphic instead of use the terminal. (call me lazy - but instead of use at lot of time learning what, where and in what order to write in the terminal - it's so easy to use graphic tools - anyway for me. :)
Hope someone know where to turn it on - if it's just hidden.

Anyway, thanks for very nice distro that looks great and just works.

PS. Sorry if my English is bad, it's not my native tongue and hurray for "spellchek"

Always best to do a fresh install.
By Updating to the new release you get the new Ubuntu kernel and apps and some of the new Ultimate Edition apps.
What you don't get is The Ultimate Edition kernel or all of the custom tweaks and modules that make Ultimate Edition what it is.

But you don't have a Rolls Royce!
