At least we are dealing with only one error, That's a start.

It sounds to like you are dealing with either a problem with your DVD drive itself, or a conflict with your Video.

Try a different DVD drive first, if that doesn't fix it, then try a different Video card, Nvidia would be best.

Yo, Chadista ... don't give up just yet! I can't help with this particular problem but somebody here will, that's for sure! Hang tight before you throw in the towel ... this is a great distro ... no, it's the best ... so it'd be a shame if you can't take advantage of it ... ;) ;) ;)

Addendum: If nothing else, install the latest Ubuntu, edit your sources list to include "deb http://repoubuntusoftware.info/ harty all", then use Update Manager to upgrade to Ultimate. That's what worked for me. Actually, just go to the repository site (with the above link) where you will get more precise guidance ... and good luck ...

Hey Chad, just how much RAM are you running? You have the specks listed, but don't say how much there is??? There are minimum requirements to make these distros work....I'd have to go back and find the threads to find them, but perhaps you're not running enough RAM????....hopefully some one else can jump in on this possibility???
I'm also going to post this link so that you can see pictures of what you should be seeing as you install, Ultimate will look a little different, but the steps or things that you will be doing are basically the same...I know the pictures helped me to understand what I was supposed to be seeing...http://www.howtoforge.com/the-perfect-d ... ardy-heron
