Installation Problems...(SOLVED)

Postby siviog1 » Thu Oct 09, 2008 3:06 am

I have a HP DC5750 PC
I burned the .iso to DVD via Alcohol 120% @ 4 speed.
When I put the disc in the pc boots to disc fine.. I get to the option to start or install ubuntu (the first option)
I click the first option and then it goes to the welcome screen to input User name and Password. I never installed other type of linux on this Pc. So if i put a name or password in the field the logon says invalid. If i just press enter it goes to the Ubuntu desktop but no taskbar is viewable only link for Kubuntu, install and upgrade. If i click upgrade it resets back to logon screen. Now since logon screen has a time to auto logon i get an endless loop.. CAN ANYONE ASSIST ME WITH THIS>>>

Did you verify the Burn? Was the md5sum checked on the iso download?
Strange as this sound try cleaning the DVD if the above was done... :|

Yes, sounds like a bad burn or .iso file that was faulty. I would suggest you verify the MD5SUM is correct, if it is reburn and try again. What you are seeing is not supposed to happen. Something is wrong with the disc.

Is the partition you are installing to clean(fully formatted). It sounds like you have the garbage from another operating system kicking around for some strange reason.

Did you re-format the partition you are installing to? Download and burn this:
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php and re-format the whole hard drive with ext3 file system.
It will not take very long(a few minutes). Then try and install.
Unfortunately a 4 gig flash drive will not be big enough.

Well, you have got me stumped. I've installed 1.9 many times in about 20 minutes with no issues ever(I burned the disc with Nero and did not do a check sum). So I understand you already installed Vista and you have a 20 gig partition that 1.5 is installed on. Is that correct?
