I have a 9200 pro agp on my desktop and don't use the ati drivers.
I assume you mean fglrx.
I use the "radeon" driver loaded in xorg.conf and get great results in 3d games and compiz.

On my new laptop with radeon x1200 I HAVE to use fglrx to use 3d but with this (common problem) it flickers like hell.

Possible solutions can be found by googling " radeon x1200 flicker hardy"
or "fglrx flicker hardy" for your card.

I'm more concerned with getting my crappy on board wifi to work.
One step at a time though eh ?

Silly, me !
I'm on my desktop system know. Radeon 9200 agp.

3d & opengl work with the xorg drivers supplied.
Have you checked your xorg.conf to check that it isn't using the ati driver but the radeon driver instead ?

no flicker at all.
you need the ati radeon drivers from ati themselves for newer cards.
That is likley why you ge tthe message about card not supported when trying to use them.
