Don't know squat about ATI drivers, but you must be a System Of A Down fan huh?
btw, that error message is a classic!!! Comedy at its best ... cant find Xserver.... huh, wonder how your even reading the message ... LOL!

Heres the thing, your installing ATI the hard way. I would simply forget about installing the driver with the
sh./ati-driver_my_what-a-pain.run
and try and use envy instead. It should be listed under Applications>>System Tools>>envy (you are running 1.7 right?) or envyng if your actually running 1.9 with the theme package for 1.7 ;)
The error your getting is because you are still running X while installing the driver. This was the case with the driver from nvidia site also. You need to exit X and run it from command line. I think this might be done by hitting CNTRL+ALT+F3, then when done re-enter with CNTRL+ALT+F7. ..... Once again, I don't know squat about ATI drivers, but it prob. installs similar to the nvidia driver.

Here you can find detailed instruction for installing most recent ATI drivers that enable crossfire for linux.
http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu ... tion_Guide
These drivers support crossfire only for 48XX series cards ATM. More cards will be supported for crossfire in coming months as per ATI catalyst crew. Here you can find examples of driver configuration to enable crossfire via aticonfig.

Me too! SOAD is great!
Just noticed on your screen shot that you have avant-window-navigator on and functioning.....
hmmmm, I though you had to have compiz running for this to take place. Yep, you do. So what are you trying to achieve by installing the drivers again? I thought that you couldn't run compiz without some decent drivers - but once again, I'm ATI deficient. :?

Just a thought, I don't know but you may have to shut compiz down during gaming as both are graphic intensive?????????I don't use games, so I don't know

Shut down the compiz for sure when playing games . The 9200 hmm.. I cant remember if you can use the latest ATI drivers in envyng or if you have to use the legacy ones. I'll try to find the list of cards that the drivers support and edit this post in a few.
Cab

edit: Well according to the list (and sorry its kinda old) your card wont work on the latest drivers so you are stuck with legacy drivers and to add to that ...
"Sadly enough this legacy driver will not provide you with any video acceleration for 3D effects." that is a quote from the how to. Any ATI people please correct me if I'm wrong but this is best info I could find on that card on a quick look.
