1.8 Problem

Postby Tib » Wed May 07, 2008 2:06 pm

Alright, noticed this last night, at random times, the taskbars screw up and are rendered inoperable, I can't click on them or do anything to/with them, it forces me to hit Ctrl+Alt+Backspace. When this happens, programs still work, and I can alt-tab through my open programs, but everything runs insanely slow....I'm not sure if it's a process making the Xserver crap out, or what....it started after I ran the upgrade script (or was all of that repo stuff 32-bit? maybe cause I installed it on this 64-bit distro?), so...no clue....I put a link to the System Monitor on the desktop, so when it happens again, I'll be able to see if any processes are crapping out and causing it....

On a side note, I noticed my beloved XMMS wasn't included with 1.8? I tried to add it via Synaptic, only thing I could find was "XMMS2", so I installed it, and I can't turn it on/get the GUI to pop up so I can play any music >_>.

:-P

Nope, I didn't touch the drivers until Drama said to go ahead and use the Ubuntu ones, as they would be newer than previous versions of Ultimate Edition.....although....I did forget to go add those lines to those files from his How-to......*walks off to test it and hopes that is what is wrong*.

See, still a noob here :-P.

XMMS has been discontinued, audacious replaced by BMP, stuff like this happens, as far as your problem... Did it do so from the live disk? XMMS2 picked up open source, but not in the repo at time of build. Most are oblivious to the things I can see.

Well, I had XMMS2 installed too, along with a couple GUI's for it, and it works in the terminal too....but none of the GUI's were even close to the original XMMS, they're just so big and bulky, and they took me 10 minutes just to add a song to play....which was insanely frustrating >_>....I like having a small music player that doesn't take 10 seconds to load up, and have a giant window :P, I just like the small, compact XMMS and it's cool GUI :P.
