Flash 9 and Java

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.8

Flash 9 and Java

Postby pring » Tue May 06, 2008 10:05 pm

Great work on the distro, but I need help on getting Flash 9 and java installed.

Sites like http://www.vimeo.com/ wont play videos and say that I need Flash 9.

I tried the following

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=772490
and
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=695674
(using firefox-3.0b5 for the firefox 3.0 folder)

I also tried

"sudo apt-get install -y --force-yes java flash acroread" from UU 1.8's homeage, but I get a message that the package java is not found. Do I need to add a repository?

Youtube works, but vimeo, google video, metacafe and others don't.

Thanks in advance

Paul

All I did was
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree lib32nss-mdns
in terminal after un-installing Gnash. Gnash made youtube videos to jumpy for my liking.

I was able to get Flash running by removing gnash and just going with Adobe's Flash.

Java is still giving me problems though. I was able to get it working with Firefox 2.0.14 (32bit), but I'd like to get it working with Firefox 64bit. Maybe I'll try removing 3.0 and try 2.0.14 64bit.

What I did was removed Iced Tea java and installed Sun Java 6 (found it in add/remove)
So far it seems to be working for me in Firefox 3.
Hope this helps...
