Missing Repo for ultimate 1.8 x64?

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.8

Missing Repo for ultimate 1.8 x64?

Postby TNBY963 » Mon May 05, 2008 7:43 am

Hi All,

first of all, thanks for this wonderful work. I love how everyone here strives to make this the best OS ever. Really, TheeMann and all the admins/mods great work. The real power of Linux is the people, and this is a good example of how it should be done. Thanks again.
I think I have a problem. I did the update script and everything but now amarok won't play my mp3's. It gives me this error: Audio output unavailable; the device is busy. You tube kinda works, I can see the screen but the video won't play. Totem gives me the following problem: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument My files are on 2 500 GB drives built into my case and the os is on a 80 GB drive.
I went to check my sources list because I remembered TheeMann saying something about a custom repo and I can't find it there. Could this be my problem? Here is an output of my sources.list
Code: Select all

Welcome to Ultimate Edition...I too had a problem with the video in FF, I think it is a Beta 5 issue..
What worked for me, and I will be corrected if this is the wrong way to do it.
Go to System..Administration..Synaptic..search for Gnash..uninstall all Gnash
Now see if You tube will play your video...
To reinstall Gnash, open up Terminal and paste this command
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install -y  --force-yes icedtea-java7-jre icedtea-java7-plugin gnash gnash-common gnash-tools
"Back up your Data"
"May I never lose the view of a nubie"
"Give a man a fish, he will eat for a day, teach a man how to fish , he will eat a lifetime"

Unless I'm blind, I don't see that you have the ubuntusoftware.info repository listed there. I also see that you don't have all your repositories opened up for use. You need to uncomment (remove the #) and save the file. Then go to terminal and do a
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update

This should refresh your sources.list. I don't know why I didn't see TheeMahns repo listed in there. Did you hit the upgrade icon on the desktop yet?

Automatix is problematic IMO... (just a speculation)
I think updating sources now relies on that.

Anyway, it tries initially to install automatix of feisty (could be related to a possible discontinue of automatix? NO IDEA) and, IMO, fails / (errored.) hence, IMO, it fails to update the sources - no functional automatix.

IMO automatix has a few (minor?) issues on gutsy/1.7; MAYBE this is why feisy is tried? again, FULL SPECULATION.

BTW, my sources are not set well either. Already upgraded.
Your suggestion yields a warning regarding automatix, and does not fix it, (NOT your fault;)
AND... recommends your solution to fix that error... :( (to no avail.)

I hope this helps...

For starters, automatix is no longer supported in Hardy, so you should not even try. I allready went through all this with Ubuntu 8.04. Besides it was automatix2 in Gusty not just automatix. automatix was a Feisty based app and wouldn't work on Gusty. Now we have multiple issues here. 1.8 is 64-bit also.

- Is this the only thing your missing? You need to remove automatix from your system if you have tried to install it. I personally have still not installed 1.8 yet :oops, I have just been through all this with Ubuntu Hardy Heron. If automatix is installed with 1.8 .... it shouldn't have been! There is no such thing any more, at least not right now. There has been rumors of automatix3 coming out, but not as of yet. As far as uncommenting things, you should also be able to do the same with ticking to enable the other repositories from System>>Admin.>>Sources. Just go to third party software and enable them all.

Thanks.

AFAIK automatix is auto installed... (or "auto" being tried to.)

But repo aren't...
(as said... I guess it now (wrongly, I guess) relies on automatix. (of some version.) but it's a speculation.)

I have no commented "sources" lines AFAIK.
(Not sure if it's good though - I am a newbie - no idea which repositories I should have enabled from hardy vanilla.)

Hmm I saw on something to this effect on webpage for repo (this site)... this is NOT updated, but maybe?...

I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY, and no other takes too as this seems outdated!!! do it AT YOUR OWN RISK, if you chose so, and ONLY AS A TEMPORARY POSSIBLE WORKAROUND FOR THE BRAVE!!! and ONLY IF YOU DON'T HAVE THOSE SOURCES OF Ultimate Edition!!!

***UNTESTED!!!*** -hmm tested now. doesn't work :(
Code: Select all
sudo echo "deb http://repoubuntusoftware.info/ hardy all">>/etc/apt/sources.list

*BTW, result was:
Code: Select all
bash: /etc/apt/sources.list: Permission denied

Another (outdated) approach, again taken from the website; ALL WARNING APPLY:
-hmm tested now. doesn't work :(
Code: Select all
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

copy and paste, ONLY IF MISSING HARDY REPOSITORIES FROM http://repoubuntusoftware.info:
Code: Select all
deb http://repoubuntusoftware.info/ hardy all

UNTESTED, NO RESPONSIBILITY TAKEN!!!
THIS NON OFFICIAL WORKAROUND MIGHT BREAK A FUTURE UPGRADE

You have been warned.

(BTW, while there, I commented the automatix line. no idea if I did good.)

-Well it all didn't work. Any better ideas?
(hmm I guess I'll be able to better guess individual repos names based on my other OS sources list... but not now.)

EVENTUALLY:
It seems it's harty, NOT hardy :)

added:
Code: Select all
deb http://repoubuntusoftware.info/ harty all #Ultimate Repo
deb http://repoubuntusoftware.info/Eyecandy/ harty all #Ultimate EyeCandy

commented:
Code: Select all
# deb http://www.getautomatix.com/apt feisty main #non working

AND HOPE IT WOULD NOT BREAK...

***CAN BE BREAK NEXT UPDATE / BREAK NEXT UPDATE!!! BEWARE!!!***.

I'm sorry I can't really get you dialed in right now, I'm at work. When I get home I will get you all squared away with what you should have on the sources.list.

OR

Maybe somebody else here today can come in and post their sources.list????

Yes, it is. Heres a question for you as well cowboy. Why do we have a feisty repository listed in there for automatix????? I think this has to be an error. I don't know how it happened but it must have been built into the build by accident. I see no reason why its there. this will never work for anyone trying to obtain automatix2 ..... automatix3 "might" be in the works, but as of right now it is unsupported and dropped.

- When I get home I'll do a little more homework and post back about codecs for Hardy, this is the only real reason I see automatix2 is good for really, and it was shotty at best when it did work.

-another question cowboy, why are a couple of your sources not uncommented? Did you not setup your sources yet for third party or something???
