ALL HAIL PRING!!! ALL HAIL PRING!!! ALL HAIL PRING!!!

Admittedly, I was skeptical, but your ridiculous "cable trick"... well, did the trick! Color me dumbfounded. Ecstatic for the $5 solution, but dumbfounded nonetheless. I award you not only all three Baph-O-Points, but you Pring... Yes YOU... Are my new Best Friend!!. One-thousand-and-one thank-yous my androgynously named new Best Friend!!!

Now, if someone would like to provide a detailed explanation as to WHY, exactly, an 80C/40P cable works, I am alllllll ears because that would never have so much as fallen on my radar as a possible solution.

Gotta hand to you Pring... You're a lifesaver. I'm posting this from a fresh install that went smooth as silk (just like always with Ultimate Edition! (/ass kissing)) and I'm updating as I type this. I'll be curious to see if I can watch all those pornogra... uh... all those National Geographic DVD's once everything is updated and tweaked... I have a good feeling about this.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am...

If it's not broken, you haven't tweaked it enough.

I will be interested to find out if that is my problem as well.

I am at work at the moment, so can't check.

I WAS reasonably sure I had an 80 pin cable but after reading this thread....I am not quite as sure as I was this morning.

Will keep you posted....actually, it's the Mrs's birthday today so I may not get on to it until tomorrow. I don't think I would be flavour of the month if I spent time on the computer tonight......

But I am always in the s**t...it's just the depth that varies......and after the last week, I am nearly drowning!!

What woman wouldn't be thrilled with a new 80 pin IDE cable for her birthday. ;)

LOL...

I was just as surprised as you were that it worked. I think my words were unf@#$ingbelievable.

Heck I didn't even know what dev sr0 was. I looked it up on Google and saw that is was related to the DVD drive and maybe UDMA. The only reason that the cable came to mind is that on every boot, I got a POST warning that my DVD drive was using a 40 conductor cable. The DVD drive always worked fine so I ignored it. Until yesterday that is...

As soon as 1.8 was installed, I came to the forums to see if anyone else had the same problem and post my solution. It's a totally under the radar solution, definitely one to file away with a big do not delete flag.

Can I cash in my 3 Baph-O-Points to figure out how to get Flash 9 installed?

Cheers,

Paul

Do you mean Adobe Flash the application, or Adobe Flash Player? I thought installing ubuntu-restricted-extras (via synaptic) would install the required Flash player-plugin... It should:

Synaptic wrote:This package depends on some commonly used packages in the Ubuntu multiverse repository.

Installing this package will pull in support for MP3 playback and decoding, support for various other audio formats (gstreamer plugins), Microsoft fonts, Java runtime environment, Flash plugin, LAME (to create compressed audio files), and DVD playback.

Also... @SaddleTramp: Most excellent and informative link that uses words I can understand. Thank you!

It does...but not Flash 9...might want to check out Adobe website and follow Linux track. If you've done this already...then try mozilla ff support. If you do have Flash 9 installed, then it may come down to a matter of getting FF to pick up on it. All I can think of right now. I haven't looked into putting Flash 9 on my sys yet, haven't come across a need (requirement) for it yet. If I come across anything I think you might not have tried yet I'll let you know. Anyway, Good Luck with it.

If your having issues with flash still, Zero Prime has made this issue rather easy to fix. He wrote:
