hello 7linux, one quick question, have you recently updated your kernel?
and what version is it? if it is the 2.6.27.9 then there is a bit of an issue with it hanging and not allowing any user input other than pressing the "off" button a few seconds and then cold booting again.

so far as a solution, I know it is out their somewhere, I just have to find it

every time if i'm still using firefox or open terminal ... fast switch for firefox tab also make my keyboard and mouse not working, and than i plugin my usb keyboard and mouse ... both of them still can be use .. i mean not my system hang ... but my keyboard and mouse suddenly like that ...

hmmm for kernel 2.6.27 ... yeah ... i try that already .. and also got same problem ....

have any idea ? Thank you very much ...

just an update, I still have not found any type of solution or workaround yet, but it seems pretty prevalent on laptops. So it may lead me to believe that it has to do with the sleep or hibernation state, been quite busy lately. Hopefully Canonical can have it fixed before I can get to it.

Hello...are you trying to run 32 bit or 64 bit,
Acers have problems running 64 bit drivers..and in fact if you have a pre factory installed Vista...you will have problems even installing an updated Nvidia driver for 32 bit Vista and have to load a driver for Nvidia through Acer themself....? That is if you are running Nvidia card...
If you are trying a 64 bit install...why not cross over to a 32 bit and see if that might solve your problems...running 32 bit is not a step down..if it works..then it would be a step up...lol
Maybe a little more info on lap would help us..help you... :)

Did you check ...SYSTEM>PREFERENCES>APPEARANCE>VISUAL EFFECTS ???to make sure "EXTRA" was selected???
Also, as I don't have 1.8 loaded anymore, I'm not sure if there is ...SYSTEM TOOLS>SYSINFO... if there is, there should be a listing for nVidia, click on that and it will give you information on you graphics card, you can see there what kernel module driver is being used...

OK, I think I may have found the reason why things are going the way they are.

To be sure, 7linux, When you restart or shut down your laptop, does it give you an extremely long scrolling screen about bad process from Idle thread?

If it is, its a bug thats being worked on. Here is the link.
