Howdy Sate...everything you have posted trying to figure this out I have seen on my system...As being new to linux myself, I honestly believe I can tell you your (her) system is safe...all that I have come across in researchin' what goes on in *nix with what you've inquired about (as well as some I have looked up as seen on my system) I have no reason to believe that anyone is "hacking" into our systems...being M$ users for so long we've gotten use to the file symantics of M$..*nix has an entirely different setup in it's file extension naming...so what seems strange in a lot of cases is actually normal...However, it's always good to be suspicious of what you don't understand when it comes to being "hacked" into (and believe me, I'm just as suspicious and maybe sometimes more so) as anyone else when it comes to this...hope this eases your mind some ... :D 8-)

LOL...know what you mean...I finally got to that point where I don't worry about it so much...I've been using Ultimate Edition long enough now that I know when it starts to act different...instead of getting all "shook" up about it, I just start looking around my system and usually see that it's something that is a normal operation now...piece of mind comes with time ;)
