Changing default sound device...

Postby Epic » Sat Aug 09, 2008 1:37 pm

Hi, I'm having trouble changing my default sound device. I have my motherboard integrated sound card (NVidia) and I have a 7.1 Dolby digital headset that appears as a USB sound device. Every time I boot, sound comes out through the headset by default. I managed to setup Amarok to output sound through my speakers, but any other sound just comes through the headset. I know about <system>---<preferences>---<sound>, but I've played with it for a couple of hours with no success :(

This is my output from the following command:

$ cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xfe020000 irq 20
1 [default ]: USB-Audio - USB Sound Device
USB Sound Device at usb-0000:00:0a.0-3, full speed

Please help...
Thanks.

You might try this:
From a terminal: sudo modprobe snd-your sound card #
Then add snd-your sound card # to your etc modules file at the end of the page
Type sudo alsamixer to adjust your sound
You can go to the sound card manufacturer to get the sound card #.
It won't work will all sound cards, but it will work with some. pch
