Video problem with games?

Postby moshe » Wed Aug 06, 2008 5:06 pm

I have been experiencing an issue with several of the games. I start the game full screen then in the middle of the game, I go to a window for no apparent reason. If I wait a second, the screen goes back to full screen. Occasionally, the window stays and I am unable to access the window. The games I have had this problem with are warzone 2100,criticalmass, and astromenace. Not sure if this is a software issue or hardware. Running an Nvidia GeForce FX 5900 video board. Older board but I can't afford an upgrade at present. Hasd anyone else encountered this problem? thx, Moshe

perhaps try to launch the game from a terminal. this way things will get logged. we may be able to trace the cause this way. since when you launch almost any app from the terminal you will get important info on things that are happening. when it drops from fullscreen check the last 5-10 lines in the terminal for any clues or errors.

beyond this i have no clue of how to narrow the issue down.

Drama, now i have something to work with. It seems that, at least for warzone2100, the program is returning errors. Most of these errors seem to be out of range errors. I saved the error msg from this game and am attaching them here. Unsure if this is a hardware or software error. Perhaps you can offer some guidance. Thanks, Moshe <BREW>

It would appear that the attachment did not go through. I will try again.

im not a big gamer. actually i almost nvr game. but just looking at the errors you list. i would have to say that its a problem with the game itself. there is nothing it there that points to hardware or driver issues. perhaps someone else can shed some light on this. but as i said my guess would its a bug in the game somewhere. sorry i c ant be of more help.

that can be very dangerous. you should try to limit your use of the root account. use sudo instead.
