Yes, this is exactly what I meant. Checking the MD5SUM is only going to let you know if the .iso you downloaded is correct and exactly the same as the one released. This only verifies that the .iso file you have is correct and *** if your burner works as it should, then the result will get you a nice install of Ultimate Edition. Here is a few links to some cheap DVD burners that should suffice. Warning: Even though you might buy a nice shiny new burner, doesn't mean it will last ... the last one I bought crapped out on me damn near instantly, but I hadn't tried to actually burn anything with it until the darn warranty was already expired!!!   Doesn't that just leave a nice fuzzy, warm feeling with you?

My 2 cents!
My dvd has and still installs on my lappy everytime (64 bit 1.8 dvd)
Yet today in another machine I got the login screen as mentioned above. Now the dvd drive is old and I have my suspicions about it so with the above in mind it could well be the drive causing the issue.
32 bit ran and installed after fine. Odd!

Thanks for the replies folks. Poltergeist... you just confirmed what I thought after my work this weekend. Ultimate Edition 1.8 64-bit DVD installed perfectly on my new hp dv9000 laptop. I used the same burner as I used to burn the 32-bit and had so much trouble with, so I am thinking it wasn't the download or the burner, but rather the old laptops drive just was reading wrong. So, that problems fixed for now.

The old laptop is being sold anyhow, so I'm not worried about install ubuntu on it, leaving XP for selling it.

Now, just trying to get my atheros ar2007 wireless working under ubuntu. So, time to get researching. Time to get researching =)
